Nice places to go for a weekend away?

Hi we are based in Newcastle.
Wanting to go away for the weekend (nothing past Edinburgh or Manchester) so 3 hours max
Anyone recommend anywhere?
Nice hotels?
So far I've thought of York or Keswick
Hotels are pretty expensive Saturday night (as expected )
So no more than £250 a night please

Whitby (White Horse and Griffin)
Harrogate
