It's quoted on here a lot but I've never liked it. Probably because I'm the person who leaves dishes by the sink! Its turned into a man/woman thing, when it actually isn't. Plenty of men are neat and tidy, plenty of women aren't. It's down to compatibility.

I'm single and if I got into a relationship where a man was the one who was say fussy over the dishwasher, well tough! I'm not going to start stressing about oh have I remembered to stick my cup in the dishwasher. I'd find that a stressful way to live.

I'm not a total slattern, but equally I don't do everything right away. Sometimes things get left. Therefore I wouldn't get into a relationship with someone who was on top of things all the time. We'd argue. Maybe I'm just selfish and don't like compromise. Which is why it's highly likely I'll stay single! But I'm just not the type of person to stress about a wet towel on the floor or an empty packet on the side.

As the author explains at some length across the series of letters, it's not about the glass.

But that is the one letter that is always quoted. I haven't read them all. I doubt everyone who see's this one quoted has. Maybe it does make more sense as part of a bigger series.

It's why I linked the original post on the author's site and flagged that it's part of a wider series on the site with lots of interesting comments for those who want to read further.

The author's writing from his own experience and has a soon to be published book on the topic.

If the book's anything like the site, I don't think I'll bother.
