Are there any shops/restaurants etc. that you boycott due to a bad experience/service?

I have two - Co-op (due to their manager in my local store selectively targeting only certain people about what were essential items in their shopping during Covid.

And Asda as their supermarket online delivery customer service line is really bad.

I’m still stubbornly boycotting the best restaurant in my town even though the food is amazing. They had a loyalty card over a decade ago where you got a two stamps every time you ordered a main and one stamp for every starter/ dessert. Once you get 30 stamps you can have a 3 course menu for 2 with a bottle of wine. Dh and I went there religiously collecting our stamps and planning to have our free meal as our anniversary dinner. We finally got 30 stamps, tried to book in and they said they’d stopped doing the loyalty card over 6 months ago. All the stamps were dated and not one stamp was more than 6 months old so they’d been stamping it knowing full well they wouldn’t be giving us a free meal. I’m still so angry about it that I mention it in the town guides that I include in the holiday lets that I manage 😂.

Anywhere with mixed sex loos.
Lush and Bodyshop for their attitudes towards women.
My local pharmacy where the pharmacist has been nasty to a disabled neighbour.
Sarah Raven plants for appallingly late delivery and substandard plants (wish I'd checked Trustpilot first).

It's a miracle I can buy anything 😬

SarahBellam · 28/02/2022 02:46

Body Shop for its overbearing sales staff. Last time I went into one I got asked 6 times if I needed help.

LittleMsPerfect · 28/02/2022 03:30

I hate the mixed toilets in Five Guys too. It always baffles me as our local one had 4 mixed sex toilets - why not make 2 MLe and 2 Femalenp

LittleMsPerfect · 28/02/2022 03:32

Sent too early

I avoid TGI Fridays since they charged £10 for 10 crisps with cheese/Guac etc individually placed on them. We actually had to ask the waitress if this was usual or had they ran out of ingredients? She said thats how it comes.

LoveFall · 28/02/2022 03:58

A local furniture place who had sales people who would not stop following you around while making inane comments. This was despite my telling them that if they followed us any more we were leaving.

There are few things that irritate me more than persistent commissioned sales people.

We did leave, and have never gone back. At the time we were moving and were needing a few things, so their loss.

Zara for their snooty shop assistants. I’m sure they choose them specifically for their snootiness. I had to return something and the assistant looked me up and down and hesitated giving me a refund. This was in Germany, still not having my money.

pompomseverywhere · 28/02/2022 04:24

The local baguette shop. Once I was in there and the owner splatted a wasp against the window.
I will never return.

pompomseverywhere · 28/02/2022 04:30

@Curlyshabtree

I boycott a certain checkout woman in a local shop. I would rather queue for an hour than be served by her!
Are you in south east Wales? I do the same.
IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/02/2022 04:39

A local independent sports footwear shop after the owner totally ignored me for 20 mins.

Zara - tye inkybtinr I ever went I , I asked the sakes girl to explain their sizing, and she looked at me and said “we don’t make clothes big enough for you”. I was a size 14 at the time.

avamiah · 28/02/2022 04:55

My local Starbucks , as I went to use the toilet whilst I was waiting for my drink and the toilet was filthy and I mean totally unusable( poo all over the seat and back of toilet)
I reported it straight away and I always remember the guy telling me he was busy and to take a seat.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 28/02/2022 06:35

Morrisons

Used for online shopping for youears, no problem, no complaints until they delivered one day with a roast in bag chicken that had split - chicken juice over £40 worth of items. All spoilt.

They spent a week giving me the run around then refused to refund me

AlternativePerspective · 28/02/2022 06:43

Talk talk.

When I left them they sent me a 0 balance bill with a £2.50 charge for sending out a paper statement. And continued to do so for months even though I was no longer a customer. Eventually they threatened to take me to court for payment for these paper statements for a company I was no longer a customer of. Took me 3 hours on the phone to eventually resolve it.

I would rather forego a holiday than fly with Ryanair.

ExtremelyDelighted · 28/02/2022 06:45

A local pub because the landlady was really horrible to autistic DS who was about 10 at the time.

A local carpet shop who failed to deliver 20 years ago and were really rude to DH.

Lush and Body Shop for their attitude to women and girls (I did like the chatty staff though).

MsTSwift · 28/02/2022 06:52

Jamie’s Italian. They gave me horrific food poisoning from their mussels then stonewalled Dh when he rang to tell them. I’ve travelled round India and never been sick like that!

Currys for their shit printers and refusal to do anything about them.

99point6 · 28/02/2022 06:54

Timpsons for giving me the absolute run around when trying to buy a spare remote locking key. Short version is that went in 3 times with different paper work. They hadn't a clue on the procedure and seemed to think I was being unreasonable for not wanting them to post my driving licence, V5 and insurance docs originals in unregistered post. I complained via website and area manager left a condensing voicemail which was the final straw.

Ashers Bakery.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 28/02/2022 06:57

Tesco, our local metro was rebranded as an express in our small town and everything shot up in price, but despite it being so convenient DH & I will not use it or any other Tesco store. Seems others have done the same as the store is never busy.

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 28/02/2022 06:57

We recently had a trip to Edinburgh and the children wanted to visit Stack & Still - NEVER again!

We were waiting ages for everything - staff more interested in setting up tables for the non existent next customer and ignoring the bell from the cool staff - leaving food handing around for over 10 minutes in one case (we timed 😂).

Food was placed in front of us with no cutlery

We waited 25 minutes to place an order for drinks - and our bottomless coffee was only refilled on request - not even a cursory ‘is everything ok with your food?’ Or ‘can I get you anything else?’

I pointed out the onion ring on my food was still frozen and didn’t get a partial refund/discount or apology.

Definitely style over substance and for people with time and money to waste - AVOID!!!

Yellowleadbetter · 28/02/2022 06:58

The body shop.
I was very aggressively accused of shoplifting by a security man who admitted he needed to get a personal “quota “ of shoplifters per day.
He was abusive, I felt violated and was frightened by his manner.
No apology.

Hippywannabe · 28/02/2022 06:59

Small coffee shop/cafe in our village , it refused to close during lockdown and declared itself not subject to the law. All of our other shops/cafes shut and pulled together. Allegedly, they even refused to allow a young lad who worked there to wear a mask and when he insisted, they cut his hours right down.
They are going to court again soon to appeal their fine and I hope they lose. I will never set foot in there again.

Vampirethriller · 28/02/2022 07:01

Talk Talk, because when I left them due to huge price rises (£26 to £75 in a couple of months) after years of being with them, they without telling me re-signed me up just to then cancel the contract so they could charge me an early termination fee. And sent me the £200 bill!
It took months for me to sort out and they're a bunch of bastards.

Dorothy Perkins because when I had a store card, I had just paid it all off and they for some reason decided I hadn't and I got final demands and bailiffs letters- despite sending them the receipts.

Pennox · 28/02/2022 07:02

Ryanair for for, wel, everything.

My in laws live in France at an airport served only by Ryanair and we instead fly to a city 2 hours drive away where we can use BA or Easyjet just to avoid using those money grabbing wankers.

LUSH for both their terrible attitude towards women and the fact that their shops give me a migraine.

NETSRIK · 28/02/2022 07:11

I also botcott one particular checkout woman at Sainsburys as she seems to have an obsession with coathangers and if you ask if you could keep any on items of clothes you buy, she then gives you a mouthful about why you shouldn't. No one else does this.

The Shell petrol station nearest my house. Wouldn't switch on the pump because I was wearing a crash helmet. Shouted at me over the tannoy to take my helmet off, despite the forecourt being full of people wearing face masks. A few were in face masks and sunnies too.

Its about 5p a litre more expensive than the nearest supermarket fuel so no real loss for me, plus I can pay at the pump there...

ThatsNotMyGolem · 28/02/2022 07:16

Lush.

Partly for the aggressive sales staff, and partly because of their campaign to provide harmful breast-binders to young girls.
