Best place for sunny April weekend not too far as hate flying

I am desperate for sun. I haven't been abroad since 2018 and am planning a quick weekend away with DM (80 and only walks short distances).

We want to lie in the sun and read, maybe walk down the road to a cafe or to the beach to paddle. Somewhere nice with little shops to browse.

Not too far as we both hate flying! End of April or early May - we want it to be as hot as possible (Morocco not ok for my mum).

I was thinking Nice - any other ideas?

Thank you

Seville. Book a hotel with a rooftop pool/bar. Easyjet Holidays have some reasonable flight and hotel deals

Soller in Mallorca

South of France but I would suggest Antibes or Juan les Pins, which are a train ride of under an hour from Nice.

Reliable (aka 'guaranteed') sunbathing weather close by would be difficult.... Turkey or Cyprus maybe...?

Malaga

Most of them are not guaranteed/likely to be sunny

We’re going to Seville at the end of March, it’s the warmest short haul destination at that time of year. At the moment it’s about 20C every day and likely to be nearer 25C by the time we go.

Malaga should be nice and warm by May. We've been in December and it was 20 degrees through the day (although a bit chilly at night!).

The obvious ones are the Canaries but the flights are longer. Once you are on the plane though I don't think 3 hours is much different to 4!

Delatron · 28/02/2022 14:30

Seville is one of the hottest towns in Spain and with the most days of sun I read. So that’s a safer bet. I went to Barcelona in April once and it was cold so don’t go there or anywhere in France is too risky.

Other than that I would say Canaries. We did Lanzarote in October and flight didn’t feel that long at all. I think about 4 hours.

Mallorca, Soller/Port de Soller. Lovely tourist train to take you to Soller and then a tram to go up and down from Soller to Port de Soller.
Malaga is good for shops/restaurants/Alcazaba but I'm not keen on the beach, the sand is more like dirt IMO.
Canaries maybe or is that too far?

Delatron · 28/02/2022 14:31

Just reread - don’t go to Nice. You could get lucky but most places in S. France aren’t reliably warm and sunny until late May/ June.

Delatron · 28/02/2022 14:32

I’m not sure even Mallorca is reliably warm and sunny in April? I had bad weather in May.
You could get lucky though.

Sicily is lovely but Taormina as it's got so many steps! Much further south so warmer
