Clothes which are too clean to go in the wash but been worn

What do you with clothes after you've worn them once, but know you aren't going to wear them for a few days at least? At the moment I put all of these clothes on a chair, bit the chair gets piled high with random things. Is it ok to put them back in the wardrobe? Or is that disgusting?

I put them on the Limbo Chair.

I don't tend to put them back in the wardrobe as I'd be worried that I'd do that a few times forgetting that it's already been put back in after one wear.

ReviewingTheSituation · 27/02/2022 19:27

I've been putting clothes back in the wardrobe for 40 years, and never seen a moth once (or any evidence of their presence).

I'm pleased to see this thread hasn't been totally derailed by the army of posters who declare that everything MUST be washed after every wear. I'm glad to see common sense is prevailing here!

Ff10n · 27/02/2022 19:30

I leave them on a chair, or hanging on the back of my door, but make a concerted effort to rewear them within a few days. Casual clothes I would rewear the next day if I know I wasn't going to see the same people two days running; work clothes I wear twice over the space of the week and then wash.

Back to where they came from, no point at all to keep washing things when not needing to. I sometimes put stuff on a chair in my bedroom, but my cats sit on things there, and get cats hairs all over. My problem is, that I dont have a wardrobe in my bedroom, very small cottage, I have quite a large attic room, all quite organised with a rail for all my clothes, and other hobby stuff up there, and a nice skylight window, I have to go up a heavy wooden ladder to the attic, so some times I just put clothes on the bedroom chair when feeling lazy.. I live alone, so nobody elses clothes involved.

Piggy666 · 27/02/2022 20:02

I hang mine up, quick spritz with very diluted fab con in a spray bottle and ready to wear again another day

Piggy666 · 27/02/2022 20:04

*on the back of the door

Genius!

@gemloving

Apparently you can put them in the freezer - that's what my Finnish friend told me that's what they do over there!
I was told in a very expensive cashmere shop in the States that keeping natural fibres in a ziplock bag in the freezer stops moths, it seems to work.

I have six hooks on the back of my door where I hang worn clothes either from the label or on clothes hangers. It both airs them and ensures they don’t get creased.
My DH has a wooden butler hanger for the same thing and it looks much tidier.
I never put anything back because of potential moths and I like to air worn clothes.

BuddhaForMary · 27/02/2022 20:13

They go on 'the chair' or back in the drawers.

Svara · 27/02/2022 20:19

Chair, top of chest of drawers, on a hanger on the clothes rail. Usually just have work clothes, weekend jeans and jumper, and pyjamas out at once so no real clutter.

OhGingleBells · 27/02/2022 20:20

Inside out on the hanger and back in the wardrobe!

Makes it nice and easy to tell; washed and ready clothes are round the right way and anything that has been worn is inside out.

Very rarely wear something more than twice without washing but if I do it stays inside out until it is washed.

Boood · 27/02/2022 20:36

I hang things on the outside of the wardrobe to air for a day and then put them back in. I don’t understand people saying it’s unhygienic to put worn clothes back in the wardrobe- if they aren’t clean enough to go in a cupboard, they aren’t clean enough to be worn again and they go into the wash.

user1471554720 · 27/02/2022 20:36

I try and wear the same trousers and jumper for a week, and wash then. If have a few things I store them folded in a clean laundry basket in an unobtrusive place until I got a few more wears out of them.

I wouldn't put clothes back in the wardrobe as they may make the unworn clothes smell stale. If I have occasional items eg a suit jacket, I would air, and put in a different part of the wardrobe.

It can be difficult if people want to wear a different outfit every day eg dress one day, trouser another day.

oohaarghoohaargh · 27/02/2022 20:45

I hang them on a row of hooks on the back of my bedroom door

A week without changing your clothes!!! No....
Isababybel · 27/02/2022 22:07

I put them on the floor of the wardrobe so they aren't touching any of the clean clothes hanging up. I only ever do this with jeans tbh, most other things get washed after 1 wear.

Fuckitsstillraining · 28/02/2022 15:14

I've an ottoman ar the end of the bed for this purpose, jeans etc that have been worn but don't yet need washing are folded and put in the ottoman, it's also handy for sitting on while planning the day (scrolling mumsnet). It has also become a launch pad for my two small rescue dogs when they jump onto the bed.

SheWoreYellow · 28/02/2022 15:27

I presume there’s clean knickers and a shirt/T-shirt under the jumper, @JellybabyGina87

TheMoth · 28/02/2022 21:17

Erm, moths have to eat too, you know.

ameliameerkat · 28/02/2022 21:30

Either aired and put away again (inside out, like another poster said, so you know they're not clean clean) or, more likely, become part of the floordrobe!

woodhill · 28/02/2022 21:33

I have cardis I wear say Monday but is not dirty so I will leave it on chair then wear in Wednesday alternating it with a different one

It will get washed at some point but not every wear itms

Svara · 28/02/2022 21:45

A week without changing your clothes!!! No....
The poster only said trousers and jumper! I change clothes everyday, pants and socks. Tops I wear two or three days. A jumper for the work week, another for a few weekends. Jeans for longer.

AnnaSW1 · 28/02/2022 22:11

They go on the special chair

SnowdropsInSpring · 28/02/2022 22:11

Never back in the wardrobe or drawers!

Folded on a cupboard or hung up out on a hanger.
