Clothes which are too clean to go in the wash but been worn

What do you with clothes after you've worn them once, but know you aren't going to wear them for a few days at least? At the moment I put all of these clothes on a chair, bit the chair gets piled high with random things. Is it ok to put them back in the wardrobe? Or is that disgusting?

I sniff them. If they smell ok I wear them again and again

MyBottomDecides · 27/02/2022 15:52

I have a work in progress shelf in the wardrobe. Lightly worn clothes go on there and everything gets washed if not worn again soon.

Sgtmajormummy · 27/02/2022 15:53

Hanging off my bentwood hat stand in the bedroom.
DH uses a trouser press with an added jacket holder.

I also have a “to be ironed” hanging area in the wardrobe. It’s separated from the rest with the IKEA mini ironing board.

Wash or wardrobe. Although we have a dog so almost nothing makes it back into the wardrobe!

jay55 · 27/02/2022 16:03

I hang them on the towel rail radiator in he bathroom(I never turn it on) or on my bed post if I'll be wearing it tomorrow.

I live alone though so it's not like anyone else sees it.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 27/02/2022 16:05

I have a row of coat hooks on my bedroom wall for this very purpose. Also where I keep my dressing gown.

LouisRenault · 27/02/2022 16:07

Smart(ish) shirts and tops for work on a hanger on the front of the wardrobe. Trousers folded and over the banister - I usually have three pairs on the go anyway - work, indoors/popping to Co-op, garden. Anything else on the chair.

Topseyt · 27/02/2022 16:11

@gemloving

Apparently you can put them in the freezer - that's what my Finnish friend told me that's what they do over there!
I have no idea why on earth you would put them in the freezer.

Personally, I just wear them all until the day I am going to put them in the wash.

CaptainPovey · 27/02/2022 16:15

I am getting a clothes steamer to see if this works for me

Clothes on hanger, steam, ready to wear again

Doanythingforlove · 27/02/2022 16:17

Over the banister.

Honourofgrayskull · 27/02/2022 16:49

I think the idea behind the freezer is to kill any bacteria which may lead to odours.
My freezer is always full to the brim so have never done this myself.

Why would you wash it if you don't wear it again soon. It's not going to get dirtier hanging in your wardrobe is it?

PagesOfSlime · 27/02/2022 16:56

Coat stand in the corner of the room. I don't put worn clothes back with unworn, mainly because of pollen contamination!

RedPandaFluff · 27/02/2022 17:02

Haha - I JUST solved this 'problem' for myself and am therefore feeling inordinately proud Grin

I didn't want to put lightly-worn clothes back the drawers because if I go out, I do want to be properly fresh. Equally, I didn't want to put them in the laundry basket, as it's wasteful. So I put a small chest of drawers in the bathroom and that's where the "life in them yet" clothes go.

I live for small victories these days . . . Grin

KitKattaktik · 27/02/2022 17:03

That is my entire wardrobe! To be ironed. Grin

I use a chair in the bedroom for lightly worn clothes.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 27/02/2022 17:04

They become my floordrobe.

ScottishBeth · 27/02/2022 17:08

Hmm, interesting! So it seems the majority do put things back. Maybe I will start to do that.

Not sure about the freezer. That sounds cold.

Separate area of wardrobe as others have said.
And if for example it’s a winter item and I haven’t managed to rewear it, I will wash it once the weather gets warmer so it is fresh again for winter.

woodhill · 27/02/2022 17:16

My chair or hung in wardrobe door

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/02/2022 18:00

I hang tops on an over door hook
Jeans are folded and put on shelf in wardrobe

noodlezoodle · 27/02/2022 19:08

I've got one of these in the wardrobe: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01586FXT8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Same idea as the limbo chair but takes up less room.

SuperSocks · 27/02/2022 19:14

If I'm feeling neat, on a hanger on the wardrobe door. If I'm lazy, drop them on the bedroom floor. I'm a total slob so nearly always the floor! BUT I do find the thought of putting them back in the wardrobe gross! I'm going to re-wear them for the next day or 2 anyway and then wash them so not much point putting them properly away.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 27/02/2022 19:17

Thats what an exercise bike or elliptical stepper is for

KylieCharlene · 27/02/2022 19:20

On a hanger on the wardrobe door.
I can't bring myself to put them back in the wardrobe for some unknown reason.
I used to hang them from my exercise bike that stood unused in the corner of the room.

Lovemusic33 · 27/02/2022 19:22

People wash clothes far too much. I am trying to cut down on how much washing I do, I used to be awful at wearing something for half the day and then washing it, now it goes back in the wardrobe or on the chair (if I want to wear it the following day), it only goes in the wash if I spill something down it, get muddy or it smells.
