There's a Rumer Godden book called Miss Happiness and Miss Flower about two Japanese dolls. First thing I thought of.

Or you could go for a fantasy-what about one of the Chrestomancy series by Diane Wynne Jones-I think in Witch Week it’s mentioned he has a collection of fantastic dressing gowns.
Or Aravis is The Horse and His Boy (Narnia) might work.
Or Bets from The Findouters when she dresses up in Mystery of The Vanished Prince (Enid Blyton)
Or Missee Lee in the Arthur Ransome book, maybe.

How old is your DD? There is an older kids series by Isabel Allende, and this would easily fit Kingdom of the Golden Dragon.

I recommend it as a read anyway!
