Dairy free pancake day.

Hi Everyone,

I have a little family member who can't have dairy coming to mine next weekend and as it's just after pancake day we are going to do Pancakes.

Rather than excluding them from being able to have certain bits I'm just going to do it that we all have dairy free. I've got a pancake recipe that should be good but I was looking for the best dairy free Vanilla ice cream, Squirty cream and chocolate spread?

Also any other pancake toppings it might not have occurred to me that have dairy in.

Swedish glace ice-cream, nature's store chocolate spread. You can get dairy free squirty cream too but can't remember the brand.

What’s the dairy free recipe please?

I second Swedish glacé I’ve cream.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Sweet Freedom chocolate stuff is very good and I think they do a chocolate spread. Their squirty chocolate sauce is really nice, and it doesn't taste of artificial sweetener (which I loathe and can taste in anything!)

Asda and Tesco do a squirty cream dairy alternative, can’t think what it’s called but it’s in a black tin with a white cap, in the dairy free section of fridge.
For pancakes I just sub the cows milk for oat milk, makes them a bit thicker

Yes the Swedish glace ice cream is lovely! Squirty cream is often non-dairy too, Food heaven is the brand I've used, you can get it from Tesco.

Peanut butter and biscoff spread.

If you're doing fat rather than flat pancakes you could go all American and do maple syrup and bacon? No dairy in that!

Or i think Jim Jams do a dark chocolate hazelnut spread which is dairy free, and then bananas have no dairy.

I also love mixed berries and maple syrup on fat pancakes like that.

Rummikub · 27/02/2022 12:18

Thank you for the recipe.
I was hoping it’d be egg free too but as it says in the link eggs aren’t dairy!

BobMortimersTrout · 27/02/2022 12:43

Natures Store chocolate spread definitely - it's better than Nutella!

I’ve used the vegan one on the bbc good food site and they’re really nice.

I'm really old school but pancakes are lovely with just lemon juice and a sprinkle of sugar Smile

purplesequins · 27/02/2022 12:55

peanut butter
bananas
applesauce & cinnamon
stewed fruit

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

I agree that oat milk used in a regular pancake recipe works a treat. Try to use barista style oat milk as it has a higher fat content and is better for cooking.
