Bottomless brunch

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 27/02/2022 08:18

Went to my first one recently with a few friends. Dear Lord I didn't realise how constant the flow of drinks would be...in 2 hours we managed 7 drinks each! I could not do it regularly. Had a good time though.

PurpleDaisies It's what people are describing on this thread, under the term 'bottomless brunch'.

Startuplife · 27/02/2022 11:01

Jesus there are some real miseries on here. Before covid when I was in my 20s and living in central London, bottomless brunch was at least a monthly occurrence. We’d meet around 1 for 2 hours of bottomless brunch and then stay out until the small hours.
We tried again post lockdown when we were all slightly older and I was the only one not with my head down the toilet by 8pm Grin
If anyone wants any suggestions, I have tried maybe 90% of the London ones and my friends and I are very snobby about food so tend to choose ones where the focus isn’t solely on the drink.

DoNotTouchTheWater · 27/02/2022 11:05

It’s not bottomless brunch if you get one menu item for food though. It’s just all-you-can drink for a 2 hour slot and one plate of food.

I guess ‘all you can drink and a bit of food so there isn’t too much of a fuss made in the press/at the licensing board’ wasn’t a winner for marketing purposes.

To be clear, I don’t mind if people just want a daytime piss up. But bottomless brunch where the food is extremely limited and it takes place mid afternoon is a completely stupid name.

EveryAvenue · 27/02/2022 11:07

We did Turtle Bay and had 13 drinks each!! They must water them down because I’m not sure how we were still walking with that many in that little time. We went out for a few hours afterwards too. Definitely my worst hangover the next day. Blush

Figgygal · 27/02/2022 11:08

Ive done one bottomless prosecco one
Dont think ive drank it since i puked my guts up all afternoon (we did an early one)
Never again

Yes - that's exactly my feeling.

I would expect a 'bottomless brunch' to consist of unlimited food and to take place in the morning.

I went to two in January. One was £30, the drinks were (sensibly) bucks fizz, free flowing, food was minimal. The other was £50, beautiful and plentiful food, five bottles of prosecco between three of us. Obviously the rest of the day was written off Grin

I know the mark up on alcohol is shocking but I honestly don't know how they make any money.

Borracha · 27/02/2022 11:11

This is a well established concept in Dubai where it’s usually all you can eat and drink for four hours. We usually go on somewhere else afterwards for a few more drinks and then you can be home by 7pm and sober by bedtime!

Dontlickthetrolley · 27/02/2022 11:13

I've been to numerous "bottomless" mostly in London. The first 6 years ago were in the traditional sense, bellini, mimosa with full English breakfast and stacks of French toast. Since then the food options get reduced but the alcohol intake increases. 5 bottles of prosecco between 3 of us in 2 hours was out best (although we did do pre drinks first too!) we went to a concert afterwards!!!

MermaidEyes · 27/02/2022 11:16

I love bottomless brunch! Always been lucky that the places we've chosen are never busy so we can stay as long as we like and drink the endless cocktails more slowly 😁 Or they'll usually have a 2 for 1 offer on for the rest of the day. And then I can go home and sober up in the evening so no hangover the next day!

Dontlickthetrolley · 27/02/2022 11:17

We also did the Hotel Chocolat Experience on the London Eye one year, that was supposed to be 2 drinks only over 2 rotations, however, there were very few people drinking and they said they'd have to pour away anything that wasn't drank, so what's a girl to do???

JollyAndBright · 27/02/2022 11:18

@Comedycook

I was very disappointed as a virtually tee total greedy person to discover that bottomless brunch meant unlimited drinks rather than unlimited food
I had exactly the same reaction when I went. 😂
User12398712 · 27/02/2022 11:27

I've no problem with a daytime piss-up but it's a horrific abuse of the word brunch.

flounces off to pedant's corner

User12398712 · 27/02/2022 11:28

pops back to grab a bottle of prosecco to take with me

Oblomov22 · 27/02/2022 11:29

Startup I'm ready to hear your suggestions. Yes please.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 27/02/2022 11:30

Possibly it began as a brunch in the late morning then grew in popularity as a novelty and they extended the hours until 5pm. The place was packed when I went.

I love brunch, but won't do the bottomless brunches. The only way you get your monies worth is to be absolutely hammered and that isn't something I fancy at 11am.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 27/02/2022 11:33

@DelilahBucket we were ordering drinks between 3pm and 5pm and stated at the table until 5.30. Drinking in the afternoon was fine by me. It was intense though.

I hate the pressurised feeling of having to eat & drink a lot in 90 minutes, to feel that you are getting your money's worth. Even having to drink a £5 bottle of Prosecco in 90 mins would seem like hard work!

I love long leisurely lunches so would avoid anything that has a 90 mins limit.

DelilahBucket · 27/02/2022 11:38

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers I'm baffled why it is called brunch then Hmm. Even so, I can manage a bottle of wine across the course of around six hours, more than that in two hours, no thanks. I'd be on the floor and if someone can handle it and not be on the floor or throwing up then there are bigger issues going on.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 27/02/2022 11:42

Brunch is just a word.

Okay for the best food and truly bottomless booze (where they literally plonk the bottles on the table for you to help yourself) I recommend Serata Hall (Old Street) or Canova Hall (Brixton). For the ultimate in good and plentiful food, Hotbox in Spitalfields or Lantana (Aussie brunch style).
For the whole experience including entertainment either Quaglinos, Skinny Kitchen, 100 Wardour Street or Guacho.
Bourne & Hollingsworth is also lovely but they are strict about the timings.
All of the Bondi Green restaurants are great, particularly the Soho one.

I have family in Dubai and when l visited l went to a few! Definitely an experience, not to be missed. I drank and stuffed myself to the brim!!!
MoonbeamSprinkles · 27/02/2022 12:05

Cos brunch sounds fun and sophisticated whereas ‘daytime piss up’ sounds scummy.

So I do ‘brunch’

It’s also why I drink ‘mimosas’ and not ‘bucks fizz’

Cuck00soup · 27/02/2022 12:06

My idea of bottomless brunch involves a big teapot. GrinI'm really old now aren't I?
