If this was a group of blokes I’d think grow up tbh🤷🏼‍♀️

CharmingScene · 28/02/2022 10:26

And yes to Damon - he had looks any girl would kill to have! But actually, it was always Alex from Blur for me.

Well - precisely. Isn't it fair that we have our turn occasionally? It's relentless from the other side.

And our discussion has been very respectful and along the lives of who was your teenage crush? Which usually isn't the case with what you're comparing it to.

In fact, I just admired Liam from The Prodigy for still being with his wife 25 years later. Really can't see a bunch of blokes having that same conversation Hmm

Hmm

There may well be some blokes on the thread. Imagine that.

@BusterGonad

Paula was married and just had a baby. I honestly think the Tube interview was literally 2 people stunned by one another. She's touching her hair and ears alot and he's acting quite similar. It's on You Tube. Inxs play listen like thieves and then she interviews him.
I’ve just watched this and noticed Bob Geldof stood behind them Hmm. I’m not sure she’s particularly flirty with him there that was very much her style of interviewing. She wasn’t hard hitting, by any stretch. The Big Breakfast one was a whole different level.

How sas the way it all turned out.

RJnomore1 · 28/02/2022 10:37

It was Alex from blur for me too, although the cheese farmer Alex is not quite my type (up for the cheese mind you)

Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2022 10:42

I used to watch The Tube because my older siblings did, but I was quite young.
It was all a bit manic from what I can remember, and very much not rehearsed. I think you had to look to Parkinson for anything in depth probably. Grin

YES! And the whole Alex from Blur as a Classic FM host. It's a bit 'What are both of us doing here? Why are you hosting? Why am I listening? You're meant to be my 90s pub crawl ride or die. Yet here I am dumping Waitrose Soffritto into a slow-cooker while you introduce Rossini.' Weird. He's since left Classic FM. So have I. Grin
BusterGonad · 28/02/2022 10:54

I got it wrong then.

Yep that's a famous interview and Dave Rowntree has apologised for it. He was apparently (as he says in his apology) addicted to coke at the time, and in a very bad place.

Not excusing him, but he seems to have been quite remorseful about it ever since.

Agree @TheVanguardSix re Alex and Classic FM, and cheese!

Interesting that Dave went on to become a solicitor and campaign for Labour, and now Alex is bezzies with the Chipping Norton set...

MenopauseSucks · 28/02/2022 11:15

Got another one as well as my enduring passion for Simon Le Bon...

Michael Monroe from Hanoi Rocks. Beautiful & a really lovely man!

Eyesofdisarray · 28/02/2022 11:16

Oh heck the more I read the more front men I add to the list? Can the thread title be amended to 'front men'????
Paul Weller in Jam days
Russell Mael oh yes how could I forget?
Scott Weiland
Corey Taylor
Dani Filth back in the day
And Jarvis- those legs 😚
Greedy?? Me??

Eyesofdisarray · 28/02/2022 11:18

Thanks for pics of Eddie V upthread- phew, 😘

CharmingScene · 28/02/2022 11:30

What is really interesting is most of the front men suggested have been from 20/25+ years ago.

Either that's a sign of MN's demographic, or it's a sign of how much the concept of the rock 'band' or even pop group has really faded over the past two decades.

Rick Witter from Shed 7 (how could I have forgotten about him!) has a radio show and talks a lot about the death of music since iTunes and downloadable music came along. I think there's a lot to that.

Could just be me being an old codger in my 40s, but honestly I think there's a lot of truth in that. A lot of music nowadays seems to be the solo 'singer songwriter', or music written and produced by the same set of people for anonymous groups.

CharmingScene · 28/02/2022 11:31

And yes, I realise I just wrote 'nowadays'. I should probably add 'when this were all fields...'.

"Fourteen year old me would have said Rod Stewart, though it's hard to see now."

I dunno Artus, me and DP have been watching old EPs of TOTP and 70s Rod had loads of swagger and sex appeal. And the voice too, yep!!

14 year old me would have said Paul Heaton from the housemartins
BuyDirt · 28/02/2022 12:22

I don't think anyone is romanticising it, I'm just pointing out that during The Tube interview you can tell that she is literally blown away by him. They had terrible press at the time, particularly Paula (being female she would), she was treated terribly. What they did wasn't great, but none of us know the ins and outs of it, so I'm not going to judge.

It’s exactly what people do about it, like them being together was destiny. 🙄 It’s like teenagers on here who have no fucking clue. Their behaviour was vile and unhealthy. If he looked like Boris Johnson, everyone would have been repulsed still to this day watching them in those interviews. But he’s pretty so its all so amazing. 🤮

And we do know the ins and outs. She fucked her husband and kids lives over for a man with a chaotic life. She was a poor mother who put a man before everything. Poor Peaches didn’t stand a chance. Poor Bob and poor kids. Their behaviour will have repercussions for a long time yet. So talking about amazing chemistry is just bullshit. They were immature and selfish.

Ferry is a giant pro-hunt Tory though.

Boner killer.

Nothing wrong with hunting Ferry is sex on legs
