Is there a Russian equivalent off Mumsnet?

So is there a Mumsnet equivalent? What are the main social media platforms? Just wondering…. Any native Russians or Uni students in here who can shed light? Would be intriguing to know how they’re responding…

There’s VKontakte which I think is the Russian equivalent of Facebook.

Ukraine have Viber, that’s their Facebook equivalent.

pikabu is a lot like Reddit

There are endless forums for mothers, dieting, whatever, but nothing really like MN

VK is like Facebook.

Comments sections on the main online newspapers can get pretty busy, too

(am not Russian but study the language)

I just realised how I never considered that other countries use different social media (I'm not including forums) to us. I thought everywhere used Facebook and Twitter, but just in different languages but all seeing the same things. Now I think about it, that doesn't really make sense.

I naively thought the Internet made us all connected in the same place (despite never actually seeing any evidence of that!) and the idea of a Russian equivalent to Facebook blew my mind Blush

I've had a VK account for ages. Well over a decade. It is a straight Facebook rip-off and is mostly in Russian.

I hardly use it nowadays and usually check on a web browser every 3-4 months out of curiosity and nostalgia. Hardly and of my friends post there now and I suspect it is dying a slow death.

I would not trust the app on my phone.

Here's me typing Ukraine in search. I am in the UK at the moment and it knows from my IP so the framework text is in English.

If I go into the Kiev Today Forum (Russian spelling as this is in Russian) the pinned message is more or less:

'Friends, the Russian Army will come to the city in the near future. All accomplices of the junta will be punished. Civilians are not in danger, but there may be some supply problems. [It goes on to suggest stocking up on water etc.].

Note that VK is banned in Ukraine. You could get around that with a VPN. I'm not Russian, my mum is from Ukraine and 'it's complicated'.

Yes, I've got distracted from looking for a Mumsnet equivalent.
