I saw this woman's bravery - marched up to a bunch of heavily armed invaders in her bobble hat and gave them a piece of her mind. Awesome.
She then offered them sunflower seeds for their pockets, so that when they were killed flowers would grow.
Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine.
Now, she's a badass, for sure. She's also being filmed by someone who can livestream what happens and upload it with ease. So, while she's taking a risk and I'm sure the Russian soldier's don't want to shoot someone who is a bit like their mum, they must also know that they are being filmed, and I wonder whether that protected the Badass Sunflower Woman.
I'm comparing it to the soldiers who were killed on Snake Island - there they are laughing, and taking the piss out of the Russians. You can see that they are, effectively, unarmed (13 young soldiers v entire war ship). The Russians flattened everything, they didn't need to do that, surely they could have landed and taken the soldiers as PoWs? Isn't that what the Geneva Convention would say "try not to flatten people if you don't have to?"
So, now Ukraine has martyrs and Putin has footage on tik tok to of being laughed at by some (very) young soldiers with their hearty "fuck you".
This conflict will be live streamed because so many people in Ukraine have access to technology, and I'm wondering how that will influence things.
I'm naively hoping that smart phones will prevent war crimes.
NB. I know nothing about combat other than what I learned from Dads Army and Apocalypse Now.
