I'm thinking about a career move and I'd be keen to hear about what other options there are out there.

HR - Strategy and projects . Has taken 10 years experience almost though to get past 50 k.

One day people will learn to be kind

I earn £50k now and I don't want to have to take a long term pay cut by moving to a new industry. Having said that, I didn't need any particular qualifications to get here and it only took me 2 years. If I didn't find it so mind numbingly dull it would be a dream.

I've been working for over a decade and never earned more than £29k. What do you do please?
middlenglander · 25/02/2022 22:03

Translator in an international organisation, with a degree in modern languages.

billycorn · 25/02/2022 22:06

Interiors. Specifically soft furnishings

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 25/02/2022 22:09

@D0lphine

We should probably all say how much we spent on degrees/ training as well as our current salaries! 🙈
I have a degree but I got it before the job I have even existed, and I'm so old it didn't cost me anything.

I don't have any qualifications in what I do now. I've taught myself all of it via online courses, a couple of conferences, and generally being a mixture of curious and determined.

You're doing better than me - I lasted 2 months working for a management consultancy before I escaped.

Any advice for how a Chartered Accountant could move into management consultancy? Thanks
Twowheelsgood · 25/02/2022 22:23

Asset valuation consultant working mainly with solicitors and I also do some business development stuff for a couple of friends who run their own companies. I work for good people and employ a few friends. Good vibes 👍🏻

MacaroniBaloney · 25/02/2022 22:27

Operations Mgr. 70k+. No degree.
Experience and results is the name of the game in my field.

ItsLisaLou · 25/02/2022 22:31

Copywriter. 88k. Love it sometimes, hate it most of the time.

AnotherProcurementManager · 25/02/2022 22:50

Waves at fellow Procurement people! I earn 55k and I’m on a term time contract.

I do have an engineering degree and MCIPS qualified but it’s not a requirement. I also work closely with legal, finance & IT, enjoy the pace, challenge and variety. Not always 9 - 5 though.

Mustreadabook · 25/02/2022 23:36

I didn’t hear anyone only ask for ‘women’s jobs’. They asked what jobs they could do. (They didn’t even indicate their gender. )Are you upset because you don’t believe a woman can do that job therefor it shouldn’t be mentioned?

Mustreadabook · 25/02/2022 23:38

Hmm quote didn’t work

AffIt · 25/02/2022 23:44

@StripeySnail Fintech, especially if you have any experience of financial modelling.

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/02/2022 23:50

Management consultant within a global investment bank. I remediate failing programmes / projects, usually high profile ones with lots of angry, frustrated stakeholders and lots of politics. It's fast-paced, high pressure and you can't be off your A game for even a second. But I love it! Took a lot of hard work to get to where I am, and to be able to hold my own and be respected by demanding, super-bright, impatient clients. Shrinking violets need not apply. It's not a job for people who need a lot of sleep.

worriedatthemoment · 25/02/2022 23:54

So two people have said they are nannies earning over £50 k , thats quite rare though I would think.?

surreygirl1987 · 25/02/2022 23:55

School teacher. I love it BUT it's full-on!
