This is intended as a thought experiment rather than moralising
I’ve been getting WhatsApp messages since yesterday advising me to keep fuel in car and it got me thinking that it might send a much stronger message to the greedy tycoons of the world if we all stopped buying fuel for a few days and everyone who could walk/cycle instead did that. If we all turned down our thermostats a couple of degrees or just huddled up in one room with coats on for a day or two.
I know it’s not going to happen. We love our outrage and to rant at the tv but in reality human life (aside from our own of course) isn’t worth a minor discomfort.
It just really bugs me right now that my very ordinary and understandable impulse to keep my car running and my family routines ticking over might be contributing to this madness.
