It was a small white lie but god I feel so bad about it.
I've told my dd and my friend and they both thought it was genius but I feel wicked!

I don't go all George Washington on the lying thing.

If it's not self-serving then it's probably OK.

So OP, was your lie self-serving or not?

(Or do you want us to tease it out of you?)

Workinghardeveryday · 24/02/2022 20:38

What did you say?!

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 24/02/2022 20:41

You need to tell us what it was for us to judge

mommybear1 · 24/02/2022 20:44

I tell my 4yr old DS he has the voice of an angel daily 😁he is tone deaf.

TomAllenWife · 24/02/2022 20:46

What do you mean self serving?

OP posts:
KateTheEighth · 24/02/2022 21:18

What was the lie?

ElleGB · 24/02/2022 21:24

Self serving - did it benefit you to lie?

TomAllenWife · 24/02/2022 21:28

Yes it did benefit me
But it didn't harm anyone - other than a large company

What lie did you tell?

There will be a difference between “I didn’t eat the cake” against “you are bubbas daddy”

thistimelastweek · 24/02/2022 21:29

I think a self-serving lie is one that's told for your own benefit. For your own profit or advancement.

Not the same as saying your mum's horrible home- baked cake was delicious. (Probably the opposite of self-serving cos she'll feed you the horrible cake forever more.)

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 24/02/2022 21:30

There is lying then there's lying... What was your lie?

ElleGB · 24/02/2022 21:31

Oh come on then what was the lie?!

Tlollj · 24/02/2022 21:32

I mean are you going to say or do you want us to guess?

thistimelastweek · 24/02/2022 21:32

Harming big companies isn't necessarily OK. Might still have costs for little people.

labyrinthlaziness · 24/02/2022 21:33

You need to say what the lie was, really.

DontBeMean · 24/02/2022 22:01

there seem to be a lot of moral dilemmas on Mumsnet tonight. OP we need to know the lie?

SnoozeAllDay · 24/02/2022 22:03

Most pointless post of the week award goes to you.

EmmaC78 · 24/02/2022 22:03

It's a pretty pointless post when you haven't said what you lied about.
