Sandwich Suggestions - Very, Very Plain!

I have to take some sandwiches to an event, which will be shop bought from a station. As far as I can tell, the shops available will be Upper Crust, Pret, M&S and Sainsbury's.
I need some suggestions please from sandwiches available from these outlets that don't contain tomato sauce, mayo, brown sauce, chutney, vinaigrette etc. It sounds easy, but I have tried this before and such sarnies are actually quite hard to find! Am thinking cheese and ham, and egg and cress, but don't know if these are available. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Pret do kids sandwiches that are just ham or cheese

Otherwise M & s or Sainsbury's will have a "Simply..." Type cheese or ham IF you get there before say 11.30

Sainsburys do plain ham, plain cheese, egg and cress but prossibly not if its a tiny shop...

Ham and cheese , my husband is someone who doesn’t do Mayo etc and most places have plain cheese or ham and cheese to keep him happy

An alternative is to buy bread rolls and sliced cheese , sliced ham , chicken etc and pick up a disposable knife or five

Pret do a funny shaped roll with ham, butter and gherkin. It has a French name I think. I am very standard sandwich adverse, that’s what I get. My child likes it too.

SpiderVersed · 24/02/2022 18:25

M&S, Boots and Sainsbury all have a plain range, so plain ham, plain cheese etc. I think it's On The Go in Sainsbury and Simply in M&S, if memory serves

BrieAndChilli · 24/02/2022 18:26

Egg and cress has Mayo in it!

BrieAndChilli · 24/02/2022 18:30

Why do they have to be so plain?
I would either get some loaves of bread, ham and cheese and salad and people make thier own or ring around locally cafes to the event and as someone to make up and deliver a platter of plain sarnies

Leeds2 · 24/02/2022 18:54

Thanks for the suggestions. I have never seen the On The Go and Simply ranges, so will have a look. Never seen a kids' range in Press either - think I must learn to open my eyes!
Brie, they have to be plain because the people I am going to visit (it is a family thing, and I have been assigned sandwiches as my contribution) don't eat anything "fancy" which includes sauces of any description whatsoever. I am staying in a hotel the night before, so want to buy from the station.

Tuna sweetcorn?
Chicken
BLT

MerryMarigold · 24/02/2022 18:58

Hopefully lettuce isn't too fancy.

Lettuce is acceptable! Tuna definitely not. Sweetcorn not sure about.

@MerryMarigold

Tuna sweetcorn? Chicken BLT
M&S do a "no mayo" chicken.
JellybabyGina87 · 24/02/2022 19:26

Why waste money on horrible dry sandwiches. Just make them.

Palavah · 24/02/2022 19:32

You can order a tray of sandwiches from Pret and i think specify which fillings you want.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/02/2022 19:32

Buy a loaf of bread or rolls, a tub of butter and some chicken/ham/cheese slices. Take a knife and make your own.

MaizeAmaze · 24/02/2022 19:39

I hadn't bought pre packed sandwiched for about 15 years, after discovering the Mayo free sandwich had the equally disgusting creme fresh in Envy

Could you pick up bread buns, sliced ham, sliced cheese, slicedchicken, some bags of salad leaves and a tub of butter. And a jar of mayo if some will like it.
Then everyone can make their own, to their own taste?

Or ring up the organizer, and tell them to reassign you a food that can be done at home and survive the travel/hotel.

Smoked salmon and cream cheese?
