Is Victoria Warehouse in Manchester an OK music venue?

I've only been once (PJ Harvey) and it was terrible - awful sound and seemed to have oversold on tickets. We were at the back nearly out in the bar bit though as couldn't face a scrum to get through. Were we just unlucky? There's some acts I want to see but not worth it if it's going be crap acoustics and coach station atmosphere.
I don't know many gig goers irl and none who have been to VW, hence asking here. Online reviews aren't great.

I don’t know about Victoria warehouse but I saw on a few years back at a warehouse in Wolverhampton and it was a terrible venue, flat, overcrowded with awful sound. Couldn’t see anything, was packed so no hope of moving and main sound was everyone talking. She didn’t make any attempt to engage crowd and only played 1 number that wasn’t from her new album. Worst gig I’ve been to!

Autocorrect - I saw PJ I mean, not on!

I’ve been to a few gigs there. Pre-COVID though so not sure whether it’s changed much since.
It’s generally felt pretty overcrowded every time, but the atmosphere has been good. I think it would depend though- I’ve mostly seen loud rock/indie bands so the sound reverberates and the crowd get into it more. Acoustics probably wouldn’t be great for a quieter performer.
If you’re towards the back you won’t see much as it doesn’t have a sloping floor like some venues. But - there’s loads of loos and bars so the queues are shorter than other places.

@MsInsomniac interesting...was it 2016ish you saw her?
P.s. Where's the venue in Wolves, by the canal? The civic and wulfrun were always decent, but I guess warehouses are cooler these days.

Thanks @DailyFailstinks - it's loud rock bassy reggae so I might be OK. Good tip about the floor, I'm pretty short so need those tips.

It might have been as long ago as 2016, yes. It was the starworks warehouse, I’ve never seen any other bands there, I’m not sure it took off as a venue. Maybe a different band could’ve made the venue work but PJ Harvey couldn’t.

Went October last year to see kasabian. All round no complaints, but was within covid rules so less people etc .
Sound was fine
