My mum uses mumsnet - this is her account. She said I can ask you this question because I'm stuck.
I have to choose my GCSEs in 4 days. I'll be doing maths, english, sciences, PoR, French - so I'm choosing my optional ones. I definitely want to do Art and Geography. But should I also choose Music or drama. That's the choice... please help me decide! Music or drama???
I already do some of both outside school. I go to a youth theatre group that I love, and I play the piano (grade 5) and love that too. What should I do?

If you are good at English, then do Drama.

So at my daughters school music is a popular option, especially if you are musical and have grade 5 plus ability. Part of the course is usually to compose something. Drama is something my daughter wanted to do, as like you she does a lot of musical theatre, but she was put off by those doing it saying it was was a lot like English and not what they expected.
To make a decision what I would do is look up the course content for your exam board and past exam papers. Which do you envision doing better in or enjoying more. Good luck in your choice!!!

My advice would be to follow your heart and chose the things you enjoy most. Those are the things that come easier and likely you feel you are stronger at. Don't make life more difficult by doing what you think you should. Do what you love.

Once you get onto A level the subjects you take at gcse are less important and the overall grade is what matters

I'd do music as it's more in your control

Drama you are very reliant on the other people in your group which, depending on who else is in your group, can be very stressful and very time consuming -so a bad fit with art

There is also a lot of analysis in drama at gcse (a bit like English lit according to my dd who did both drama and music in 2019) so it depends if you like that or it's more the practical that you enjoy
