Prepping for war...

Does anyone have any guidance about what we should be prepping?

Do you have an escape bag? What do you keep in it?

Should we start planting some root vegetables?

@RedToothBrush - Still think you can prep realistically?

Yes.

The vast majority of people's prepping is realistic and based on likely scenarios, not the end of the world. The vibe I get from your posts is that nobody should even try preparing for anything.

I think its probably too late to do the things that are really going to make much material difference tbh.

Prepping for stuff like this specifically suggests you can protect yourself for lengthy periods of time.

No, the suggestions I'm seeing are things like get a bit of cash out in case the banks go down for a few days, make sure your tank is full, look for ways to reduce your fuel bills, buy stuff now if you can afford to because prices are likely to increase.

Your previous long post did appear to push everything towards worst case scenario.

For individuals and families it can make a huge material difference if they have planned for their grocery delivery being unexpectedly cancelled or their water or power going off for a few days.

It's absolutely not too late to get a few extra tins in, or a couple of big bottles of water or some candles or whatever. You never know, the particular shortage people are facing might just be temporary. It usually is.

If not then we'll all go together when we go, obviously, but some of us will have enjoyed a less shit run up to our oblivion.

Wars are events that realistic last years. Until you know how the new system is going to operate, you cannot plan for it. Indeed it could put you at more risk rather than help you.

Can you explain what extra risk people will face if they get in a couple of extra bags of rice and beans and a few tins, or if they keep their petrol topped up?

What kind of new system are you imagining?

I'm not a prepper but I did do a storm grab bag off the back of storm threads.
However it's a good mentally to have some stock s and be a little aware And be prepared a little.
It's the mind set that we take care of ourselves,we are responsible for ourselves and we don't wait for others to tell us what to do that I like.

Preppers · 24/02/2022 22:08

@Tigersonvaseline can you please share what's in your bag?

If you visit the preppers topic there is lots of info about grab bags aka oh fuck rucksacks. Plus basics about essentials to have prepped for various different potential emergencies

@KloppsTeeth

I’m buying up shitloads of Cadbury mini eggs. When the time comes, I’m going to eat myself into a sugar coma and die that way. Smile
Ooo I'm with you on that one

Gin and fags are a must, and a few tins of spam...

LangClegsInSpace · 24/02/2022 22:16

I have all those things in the house as run of the mill. I don't consider it prepping

Bully for you! Lots of people don't, either because they can't afford it or because they're scared to think about it.

In your big post upthread there are a lot of sensible questions.

Cyber attacks - not unlikely. It's worth thinking about how you would cope if online services you rely on were unavailable for a few days.

Energy supplies - how will you heat and light your home if gas and / or electric was suddenly not available? How will you cook? Assume it's temporary. It always has been so far.

First aid skills - ALWAYS short term, even when things are working as they should. It's never a waste of time to do a course that teaches you how to save a life.

etc. etc.

There are so many really good reasons that people should prep in your post Confused
