Cost of new boiler with fitting....

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 24/02/2022 10:49

Hello everyone,
Does anyone have an idea how much roughly a new combi boiler is with fitting please. In the south east.... I've had a quote but it seems high. Another plumber wants to charge a big call out fee before he will even look!
TIA

£2000 for Viessmann combi boiler and fitting, NI. Seemed a lot to pay but it’s so efficient, we’ve saved money on our gas bills despite recent increases in prices

Blush21 · 24/02/2022 11:45

£2200 for a new Worcester boiler in September 21. Also changed the filter. This was a combi for a 3 bed terrace. Anything around £2k to £2.5k is reasonable

yoshiblue · 24/02/2022 11:49

Ours was £2700 last year but we had to put in a bigger boiler to power 4 floors (from cellar to loft extension). For less floors I'd expect £2000?

tealandteal · 24/02/2022 11:53

Your quote sounds reasonable compared to the boiler we had replaced when we lived in Southampton. Two bed house, straight swap. We paid a lot more in our current house due to the fact the boiler needed to cover three floors and we needed scaffolding.

Thank you so much for all of this info it's really helpful.

I work for a gas engineer in the South East. London/Surrey borders.

£2K - £4K is the normal range depending on what's actually required. A full power flush of the system should also be carried out.

You shouldn't have to pay anything for a quote. We don't charge any call out fee for a new boiler quote.

Boilers are a bit harder to get hold off at the moment but not impossible. Expect upto a couple of weeks wait after the engineer has ordered the parts.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 12:14

I had a new boiler fitted in the south-east (north Hampshire) in December. It was a Viessmann boiler - a standard one with a hot water tank and it cost £3K with a ten year warranty and fitting.

nodtik · 24/02/2022 12:15

£2,400 for n the Autumn

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 12:15

@OhDearWhyAmIFatterly

It's in Hampshire, so not quite London prices! I've been quoted £1950 for new boiler and filter fitted....
that sounds very cheap - be careful what brand you go for - Viessmann or Worcester Bosch are the best ones to go for
PineappleWilson · 24/02/2022 12:18

We've just paid £2000 for a new combi and fitting (East Midlands). He came out to service it, then found a part was needed and ordered it, found it didn't fix the issue and condemned the old boiler and quoted for the new one, meaning we didn't have to pay the service / replacement part costs, which was helpful.

wizzler · 24/02/2022 12:20

We paid £2.5k for new Worcester Bosch. Via British Gas and we are paying over a couple of years , and they are not charging for servicing contract , which helps a lot with the bill.
The fitter said that there is a shortage of boilers ( probs with chips) so worth double checking that whoever you go with can supply. I think the big boys have all the stock

VirginiaQ · 24/02/2022 12:24

I paid for £2100 in the Northwest for a Baxi 360 about a month ago. Baxi was recommended by my boiler man and has good reviews on line plus an automatic 7 year warranty. Would avoid the Viessmann as mine lasted 8 years so not impressed,

BarbaraofSeville · 24/02/2022 12:52

We've also had problems with a Worcester Bosch boiler, which was disappointing considering it was supposed to be one of the best.

It is 16 years old and to be fair it's been trouble free for a few years, but there was a plastic part that broke within a couple of years and despite googling bringing this up as a known issue, they were unhelpful about any sort of warranty repair and we basically had to pay to fix it or else be without heating in winter.

The condensor also froze a couple of times in bad winters, which seems to be poor design, but is better now we've added additional insulation.

There's also been a leak or two along the way too.

FrogFairy · 24/02/2022 13:08

Ex DH had a combi replaced in December 2021.

I can’t remember the brand but it has a ten year guarantee. Boiler plus room thermostat cost £1700

DecentPleasant · 24/02/2022 13:16

Our new Vaillant has a 10yr warranty and was around £1400 plus £650 for fitting. NW London.
Avoid British Gas. Likely to get double this.

ModerationInEverything · 24/02/2022 13:21

We used Boxt for dm's new boiler last year. Fair price £1800 for a Worcester Bosch. Excellent service, very simple, no upselling or anything.

cobblers123 · 24/02/2022 13:24

My new boiler goes in in a couple of days, I currently have no heating or hot water, it's horrible!

Cost will be £2,600 for installation plus all the stuff that goes with it. No radiators involved, just the boiler.

I'm pleased with the cost, I'd estimated more.

cobblers123 · 24/02/2022 13:26

Forgot to add, new thermostat and also has 10 year guarantee. It's an Ideal brand.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 24/02/2022 14:28

OK so now I'm panicking that I've been quoted too low!!!!

We paid around £1800 a year and a half ago. Not a combi boiler, though which I think might be more expensive, we have a hot water tank. We had the system flushed at the same time, all done in a day. We''re in Edinburgh.

VanCleefArpels · 24/02/2022 14:37

@BarbaraofSeville our WB boiler was also 16 years old. Their useful lifespan is 15 years 🙄 and advice we had (which I trust) is that they just become uneconomical to continually fix/ replace parts. New tech means new boiler more efficient too

ifonly4 · 24/02/2022 14:38

It's worth getting 2/3 quotes to give you an idea of what's fair and also to give you a feel who would be best would you.

We paid £2800 (Worcester Bosch boiler) in 2010. We had five quotes, two extremely cheap so we ruled them out. Couldn't get a written quote out of another, and on checking out option no. 4, he had a really bad reputation. We ended up with most expensive, but he was brilliant - he showed me how to use and came back that evening to show DH as well.
We had a minor blip a month after installation, I left a message on his phone in the evening and he knocked on the door around 9pm to check it out (free). We've moved since and still use him.

Pedallleur · 24/02/2022 15:01

Work colleague paid £2400 on a Worcester (interest free credit) inc radiator flush and new thermostat valves all round

OrganisedChaos22 · 24/02/2022 15:06

Ils have just paid 2800. Straight swap and a couple of pipes for an additional radiator when required. Hampshire

A596881B · 24/02/2022 16:24

Just out of interest OP how much were you expecting to pay?
