The news is why I need Sweet Magnolias and Virgin River

Although Virgin River has its creepy drug stuff, but it’s still pretty ridiculous.

What else will I like?

Ideally small town or picturesque enough to bd different to my day to day suburban UK living. Nice little stories, eye candy doesn’t hurt. Thoughts?

Didn’t like This is Us Blush

Pretty old but have you watched Gilmore Girls? (from a fellow Virgin River fan)

Heartland, set on a ranch in Canada. DH calls it My Big Pony.
Chesapeake Shores. Daft but full of pretty people and a cute town.

spottygymbag · 24/02/2022 09:18

Nashville- an oldie but a goodie

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/02/2022 09:24

I'm behind the times on this, but I've been enjoying Young Sheldon, and The Dog House on C4 is very heartwarming.

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/02/2022 09:30

Thank you thank you thank you

The Good Witch. DH watched an episode and reckoned he got a cavity it was so saccharine sweet! But it’s very easy watching

mnahmnah · 24/02/2022 09:39

If you’re willing to pay, or get hold of DVDs on eBay, all four seasons of Hart of Dixie are on Prime. One of my favourites ever.

Whelmed · 24/02/2022 09:48

I watch old favourite TV shows that I've seen a million times, it's comforting to know exactly what will happen. 30 rock, superstore, vicar of Dibley, dinnerladies.

Sheilaroundthefountain · 24/02/2022 09:54

I wanted to try Heartland but can’t find the first series’s anywhere. Anyone know where I can find it?

Rainbowqueeen · 24/02/2022 09:57

Anne with an E
Something I wouldn’t suggest for a binge but which is good for light relief every now and then is Nailed It.

goldensilver · 24/02/2022 10:00

Gossip Girl
Jane The Virgin
The Office (US)
Schists Creek
Parks and Recreation

There something for about £4 a month you can add on Amazon (Up Family?) to get you up to where Netflix have it as loads vanished on 1st January this year.

I am hiding from news behind Heartland . Also enjoyed When calls the heart, Good Witch and Schitts Creek.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/02/2022 10:07

Oh, if you've got Apple TV, Ted Lasso is good for lighthearted escapism.

pawpaws2022 · 24/02/2022 10:39

Definitely heartland, and there is loads of episodes!

IloveJudgeJudy · 24/02/2022 11:30

The Greenleafs is not quite as easy to watch but still very enjoyable.

Aspiringmatriarch · 24/02/2022 11:50

I've started watching Drop Dead Diva on Amazon prime video - it's light and fun, and has one of the Sweet Magnolias actresses in it (Brooke Elliot).

BadPlaceJanet · 24/02/2022 12:18

A real oldie, but Northern Exposure fits the brief. Sadly, I don't think it's streamable. I bought the box set.

Corner Gas on Prime is this kind of thing too.

wibblewibble · 24/02/2022 12:45

A Place to Call Home on Amazon is very similar Virgin River, recommend it for easy escapism!

I absolutely adore Hart of Dixie! When I started watching Virgin River I laughed out loud because Brick plays exactly the same character in that, too Grin
amusedbush · 24/02/2022 13:03

I'm currently rewatching The OC on All4, which is annoying because of the ads - I'm regretting the fact that I got rid of my DVDs years ago! I also like to watch One Tree Hill every few years, and I'm really enjoying the OTH rewatch podcast.

konasana · 24/02/2022 13:10

I quite liked re-watching 90210, very relaxing and predictable. Old classics on ITV too like Poirot, full of people behaving honourably (except the criminals of course!). In one episode, a family receive a threat that someone will kidnap their child and the horror and disbelief of the police/Poirot team - a child? Being kidnapped in England? Never. Their total disbelief that even a criminal would stoop so low as to threaten a child.

Mufflette · 24/02/2022 13:12

Another vote for Hart of Dixie, and I feel like When Calls the Heart on Netflix was similar.

goldensilver · 24/02/2022 13:12

Desperate Housewives - although there is the mystery/murder aspect it's all very lighthearted and definite bit of escapism

mnahmnah · 24/02/2022 14:35

@amusedbush

It’s exactly same character isn’t it?! Even the storyline. Grumpy old man hates new young female
