I have always used a cafeteriree and gone to a Starbucks or whatever for a 'proper coffee'. its just occured to me, that is why people have 'coffee machines' at home. can you recommend a coffee machine that will supply me with proper coffee please. it can't be expensive because I am poor but realise that I will save on take away coffees...it needs to have a short ROI please

I only drink americano in coffee shops too, I can't stand anything milky. I use an aeropress and a V60 at home and don't really have a preference, but both are brilliant.

I would like a Moccamaster but mainly because I think they look good, I'd probably use it to decorate my kitchen worktop but still use the aeropress for ease Grin
@SparePantsAndLego is Nespresso with pods? I'm not sure I want to have to get pods. I can buy beans in the local shop but where do you buy pods?
@VirginMedium these work well

This is a brilliant neat machine which makes amazing Americano’s - for an even better get one from Amazon warehouse for around half the price

I have a Breville coffee express in which I use ground coffee big you want milk, just heat in the microwave. I do use paper filters in the basket. I think morphy richards make a similar machine.

Pps mentioning sage - which one have you got? I’m considering the barista express.

Mine is a good few years old so not in the current range but a predecessor of the current Barista models. Its a decent balance between size, price and durability for domestic use rather than commercial. Its in daily (frequent) use and has been for years.

If you haven't had this type of machine before its worth learning to use it properly but there are plenty of youtube videos showing everything from basic use, how to do your own servicing, adjust the internal grinder etc if you want to do that yourself.

Also buy beans in small quantities regularly and keep them in the fridge. Its tempting to go mad and buy half a sack of beans you like but they dry out quite quickly once opened.

We use a gaggia classic (£££) that we were given as a wedding present.

We also both have an aeropress for work.

Our coffee is through the post from Pact. I use ready ground decaf, DH uses beans that he grinds.

I hate cafetieres they give muddy grains at the bottom of the cup.

I have the Delonghi Dedica, which uses ground coffee, and it’s fabulous. Small and looks good. Steams milk very well if you need it. I’m even opened a coffee kiosk six months ago and have two in there. They’ve done a hell of a lot of coffees and hot chocolates and coped wonderfully. (I was a barista in a proper coffee shop previously and they compare well to the peo machines, they’re just a tad slower). I’m not a particular fan of bean to cup. They’re easier, but don’t taste quite as good somehow.

We bought a Sage one before Christmas, had Nespresso before that. Absolutely love the Sage, bean to cup makes all the difference in my view
