Has anyone agreed to a Smart Meter but found they couldn't have one? Or was going to be tricky.

I keep getting emails and I might be coming around to the idea. BUT my Gas and Electric meters are like quite antique. Well 1980 ish. They have a cupboard each, and have those old fashioned numbers that click round.

I asked Ovo Energy if an engineer could come round and have a look first but no, you have to agree to it then they come and install it. I really wanted them to tell me what's involved.
Is there a danger they won't be able to do it?

I have to have a smart meter, it’s an agreement of my tariff. However the last two appts they’ve cancelled on me. One on the day, the one the evening before. I’m getting very fed up about it. Just made another appt for April so will see what happens. If they don’t come this time they can fuck off.

@Englishrosegarden

I've been holding out on having one fitted for a long while as I can't see any benefit to me at all. I was alarmed to read this week that installation of smart meters would allow energy companies to charge more at different times of day, so you could pay more at peak hours and less at night. This was said to be only an idea being floated but it did make me wonder if that has been the intention all along, hence the huge amount of pushing from the energy companies.
This is the same reason I am holding off. There is no incentive for the energy companies to install them at great expense for you to spend less money. It will be so they can offer tariffs that charge different amounts at peak times, when I am likely to need it most, no thank you

We switched providers after our smart meter install and I was pleasantly surprised to find the smart meter did work - although it took a few months for some reason, and I haven’t bothered to check if the display works still as we didn’t use it much anyway.

We cant get one - I cant remember why, but a few folk have been round in the past and told us we can't. Doesn't stop the continuous mail saying we HAVE to have one due to the tariff we were on.
