3 month old skin rash all over body and face

Hi my baby is now 3 and 1/2 months old. He has had a rash all over his body and face since he was 2 months old which has got worse and worse. On his body the rash is red areas and tiny red spotty look. On his face rash has turned into red yellows crust on cheeks and side of scalp. Baby is itching constantly!!
Going back and fourth seeing 3 different doctor, I’ve been told It’s eczema, aptopic dermatitis, now a staph infection. Baby has been prescribed a moisturising cream, a steroid cream and an oral antibiotic. Today baby work up with one red eye (whites of eye red) doctor has said it’s part of the infection.

On top of this doctor said it could be a cows milk allergy causing the rash so has been changed to aptamil pepti 1. A week In on taking it and no difference to rash as of yet. My baby was on aptamil first before from birth and he loved it, he had no issues with wind, sick, colic, reflux. Only issue was stools were always watery and obviously a horrendous rash on body. He has accepted aptamil pepti fine so far but rash hasn’t improved.

Baby has not had a skin or allergy test, I have tried to push for one but doctor won’t refer. Any advice or similar experiences please? Also how to stop the itching: baby is itching head like crazy all night despite the milk change, creams and antibiotics

Thank you x

Hello, so sorry you and your DD are goof through this. I done have any advice really, but wanted to send Thanks because I think you need them.

In your position I'd be pushing hard for a speedy specialist referral as you don't have a firm diagnosis yet.

I do hope things improve soon

Aw your poor baby. Since your GP won't refer you, you could try with your health visit instead. I have found them more willing to make referrals.

Good luck Flowers

Similar experience here with my DS who is 5 months.

Really bad rashes that have varied in appearance just as you’ve described. We’ve had different emoilients, antibiotics, antihistamine and steroid cream. We suspect dairy allergy but I’m breastfeeding so have cut it out. A paediatrician friend agrees with me re eczema but there’s also been a viral element to DS rashes - he’s had covid and another awful
Non-covid virus like RSV and these have both caused terrible skin flair ups.

Steroid cream plus emollient is helping for us. Piriton at night for itching and fusidin for the itching head as I think that’s been a little infected.

It’s a nightmare getting a decent diagnosis- so far all I’ve had is phone consultations with a GP and shared photos. No one has actually examined DS.
