Have I ruined DD's Northface jacket??!!

Somehow DD's NF puffer jacket got caught up with other washing and washed at 40 degrees.
All the down has clumped and DD is screeching that it's ruined.

Anything I can do to fluff the down back up? Dare I risk putting it in dryer?

Proper down jackets puff right back up in the tumble dryer! Put in a couple of tennis balls or soft tumble dryer balls if you have them and it will be dry super quickly.
(please double check the care label on your actual jacket, but this is what I do with our two - it's quite a transformation!)

Campervangirl · 21/02/2022 22:45

Yep put it in the drier on a cool setting the down should separate, then fluff it up, shake it about, manipulate the down then another 10 minutes in the drier then give it a good shake

Toddlerteaplease · 21/02/2022 22:46

I leave mine to air dry as I don't have a dryer. Just give it a really good shake when it's fully dry. It'll be fine.

ThNk you for speedy replies! How long should I leave in dryer before I try to plump it up?

As above, it should be fine in the dryer. Do check the care lablw though. Down takes much longer to dry than you'd think, make sure your dry it fully or it will smell musty.

Check the care label.

Get your dd to wash her jacket in future!

Thy take guitar a long time in dryer, you need to shake and then put back as the clump in balls. Dh dryed my gilet and it had clumps but I just pull them apart and put back in for a bit and it's perfect. Has she washed it before?

stressedscot · 21/02/2022 22:49

Quite not guitar!

My tumble drier turns off when things are dry, I'd guess it's going for 30 minutes or so, but it literally comes out of the drier totally puffed up and ready to wear, mine doesn't need shaking or anything - that's what I meant by quite a transformation!

LondonQueen · 21/02/2022 22:51

Chuck it in the dryer and it'll fluff right back up.

EvianBaby · 21/02/2022 22:52

I ruined one of my coats in the same way. I am terrified to wash DSs North Face coats. I just clean them with a damp cloth. If it makes you feel any better, I still had a moment when I thought I had ruined his new one. I sprayed it with a water proofing spray and it turned purple… thankfully only until it dried!! Good luck!

Mercyn · 21/02/2022 22:53

Use low heat with tennis balls - they do take forever but will eventually dry and be fluffy.

han01uk · 21/02/2022 22:54

Low heat, shake vigorously, then do it again. It will take a few runs to dry completely and fluff up but will be fine!

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/02/2022 22:58

I wash Dd's and it fluffs right back up in tumble drier with tennis balls in it. I also add a small dry hand towel to speed it up.
