Gift ideas - 6 year old girl

Hello,

Our niece is about to turn 6 and we have no idea what to get her as a birthday present. Any suggestions/pointers as to what girls that age are generally into would be greatly appreciated.

My SIL is struggling to think of anything for us to get given she got everything on her list for Christmas 😵‍💫 DN's requests have so far been a horse and a mobile phone (neither of which she's getting) 😂

Thanks in advance!

A squishmallow

SuperSocks · 21/02/2022 21:48

If she's got any sense she'll like playmobil. What's your budget? You could get her a horsey set?

AmbushedByCake · 21/02/2022 21:49

@blingkerching

A squishmallow
This is exactly what I was going to say. Squishmallows are great.

Hatchimals, enchantimals, cutitos pizzatito (NOT a scented one). Zoobles, Lego friends kit with horses. Craft kit ..I could go on all day!

BakewellTart01 · 21/02/2022 21:55

My DD turns 6 in a few weeks. She is getting an encanto doll (which sings) and a crayola light board.

I do echo Squishmallows though. She got one for Christmas and it has been played with or cuddled most days.

eurochick · 21/02/2022 22:18

Lego Friends was a big hit at that age. And squishmallows.

EcoCustard · 21/02/2022 22:20

Dd6 loves her Squishmallow. Mine loves
Squishmallow, Playmobil, Lego, jewellery making kit. Art/stationery stuff (mine is smiggle mad).
If into any sport or activities something related to it. Dd loves her gymnastics and got a beam for Christmas not been off it since.

MotherWol · 21/02/2022 22:22

DD1 is turning six this week, she’s getting a Yoto player, a fleece onesie, some books, some stuff from Smiggle and some Lego friends. Grandparents are getting her a National Geographic Kids magazine subscription and adopting a tiger through WWF.

Barrawarra · 21/02/2022 22:25

A flying fairy called a crystal flyer, my 6yr old loved it. Anything arts and crafty, fimo.

tinymeteor · 21/02/2022 22:28

What’s the big deal with squishmallows? Are they just mega expensive soft toys or do they do something extra?

MisgenderedSwan · 21/02/2022 22:49

When my dd was 6 my mil got her a treasure chest shaped box which she filled with coloured paper, washi tape, glue, safety scissors, stickers, gel pens, sequins etc all manner of craft items. It was my dd's best loved and most played with item for about 2 years and we used to top her up with bits for her chest or let her have £1 to spend at hobby craft etc to choose something for the chest. If your niece is crafty I would definitely recommend!

Thanks all, much appreciated! You've given me a few things to look into 👍🏼

I know she's a massive fan of squishmallows and already has a few. She also has hatchimals and loads of horsey type toys so will probably steer clear of those for fear of doubling up.

She lives in another part of the country and we won't actually be seeing her on her birthday so it'll have to be something we can order and get delivered which is a shame as I do love the idea of the DIY crafty treasure chest. She does love drawing and making pictures with stickers and glitter, etc.

What is a squishmallow? It just looks like a cuddly toy or have I missed something?

Eggshausted · 21/02/2022 23:13

How about some craft kits? To make a picture frame or some key rings, bracelets etc?

Laquila · 21/02/2022 23:13

Dressing-up stuff is still good at that age (maybe Harry Potter?)

Other than that:

  • Colour-changing umbrella (Floss & Rock, amongst others)
  • Sherpa fleece-type blanket/hoodie thing (sort of like a huge fleece poncho)
  • Books - The Book With No Pictures is great (BJ Novak), There's A Ghost in This House by Oliver Jeffers (most of his are excellent), and we also love the Brownstone family mythological ones by Joe Todd-Stanton
  • Fabric pens and a blank t-shirt
  • Starter sewing kit (Buttonbag make a nice one - my 6-yr old loves his)
  • Notebook/diary with a little padlock
liveforsummer · 22/02/2022 07:11

My dd at 6 loved tie dye kits , top model books/accessories , Smiggle stationary and Schliech horses. Also beanie babies and LOL dolls although might have been at the growing out end of the LOL

liveforsummer · 22/02/2022 07:12

Also if she doesn't already have an Alexa dot they are pretty cheap and dd wouldn't be without hers

HeadToToesNo · 22/02/2022 14:07

Would she be interested in a butterfly farm? I'm thinking about getting my DD one from InsectLore for her upcoming birthday.

I think it's partly branding/design but they honestly are so lovely and satisfying to cuddle! And so soft!

My 6yr old got a big one for Christmas and it was her favourite present. I think the smaller ones are less impressive but she lies on the big one when she's watching tv.
