Hello,

Hopefully we get to escape covid isolation 9865 on Thursday. I would like to do something nice for the children as they have been affected evr sodding school holiday by isolation this year. Any recommendations? Have done the usual bowling/Longleat/NT/Bath/Bristol/Go Ape etc. Thursday is not supposed to be too nice either sadly.

Thanks

This might be too far into Wales for you as more West Wales, but we had a great day out at Folly Farm. I would say it’s about 50% indoors so still a good day out even in bad weather.

This near Chepstow?
www.ndac.co.uk/thewire.htm

Or Cardiff Castle/ Cardiff Bay?

OverByYer · 21/02/2022 20:04

Oh sorry just saw the zip wire place is permanently closed.

What about Barry Island? Theres a fair and arcade?

goingpearshaped · 21/02/2022 20:25

Big Pit is interesting for the kids, they get to go down the coal mine, but its in Blaenavon so a bit off the beaten track, or St Fagans museum.wales/stfagans/

KatyN · 21/02/2022 21:49

Is crealy too far? If the weather isn’t too bad, my kids adore river dart country park.
For a lower scale day have you clip and climbed?

Aspidistra1 · 21/02/2022 21:51

Cardiff and Bristol both have indoor surfing.

Gloomandglow · 21/02/2022 22:18

Another Big Pit recommendation here. We went on Saturday and it was fab, even in the rain. Only £5 for parking but free to enter, like St Fagans. St Fagans is great when the weather isn't quite so damp.

FlibbertyGiblets · 21/02/2022 22:21

Big pit had a great cafe pre pandemic, was it still great, Gloom? Proper faggots, etc.

devildeepbluesea · 21/02/2022 22:21

I’m in South Wales, completely recommend Big Pit. It’s absolutely fascinating. Blaenavon is a bit of a hole though (sorry MIL!) so would recommend Monmouth or Chepstow for lunch.

DotBall · 21/02/2022 22:23

St Fagans in Cardiff is fantastic

BestIsWest · 21/02/2022 22:26

Zip World at Tower Adventures?

Lacdepassy · 22/02/2022 06:49

We love Cardiff and spend quite a bit of time there. Here are our go to places with children:
St Fagans
Big Pit
Cardiff Bay (good skate park if they like scootering/skating) and erhaps mix in with a trip to techniquest or the swimming pool

My children still love a trip to Barry Island, we park in jackson's Bay and have walk across into Whitmore. We have hot chocolate/cake at the end and the children get 3 pounds each to blow on the 2p machines in the arcade.

Fforest Fawr walk through the sculpure trail and end up in the cute tearoom

This thread is making me want to go to Wales on holiday!

I assume you've already done We The Curious in Bristol Op?

Hope you have a fantastic time and come back and tell us about it afterwards!

poorbuthappy · 22/02/2022 07:05

Deffo Big Pit

SevenSteps · 22/02/2022 07:09

Agree Big Pit is absolutely brilliant. St Fagans is also great but not quite so good in bad weather.

Katshouldnotswim · 22/02/2022 07:11

The royal mint. It’s indoors and an interesting tour.

Don’t ask your guide if he thinks we will be a cashless society soon ( like DH did in 2019)
