Worried for BFs health

My bf is 41. He's overweight by a few stone but his diet isn't awful. He drinks a couple of beers (literally 2!) once a week. He exercises but not where near enough and has a busy job.

He went to the doc for a check up a month ago where they found his blood pressure was 195/115. He was immediately put on ramipril and has subsequently had his dose doubled but it isn't working. He is making changes to his diet etc and is monitoring his BP but it isn't improving that much at all. He is definitely taking it seriously.

I'm so so worried for him. Does anyone have any experiences, good or bad at all of anything similar? I'm terrified he's going to have a stroke or heart attack.

The doctor should review his meds and offer an alternative to ramipril if its not working. Is he on any other tablets. Has he been referred to the hypertension clinic. How is his weight loss going.

He had a review last Tuesday where his ramipril was doubled up to 5mg once a day. He has had bloods taken but nothing else yet.

Weight loss is slow. I think he is still eating too much - he is improving things so much but needs to do more I think.

Do you live together and cook for him, he needs to alter his diet, exercise a bit more and destress.

worriedonwine · 21/02/2022 19:08

No we don't live together. Altering the diet is actually the simplest bit, his job is just insane. He is madly busy and he has taken on a new role recently. I feel pretty helpless as there isn't much I can do! I encourage him as much as I can and support him in every way I can think of but open to suggestions! He really is trying with his diet, very much so.

So this is quite a weird one but I have found swimming to really help. Gave up booze, coffee, salt, lost 2 stone and only saw minimal difference to BP
Took up swimming last summer to enjoy the weather and my blood pressure started to drop straight away. I don’t swim regulately now but whenever my blood pressure creeps up I go for a few swims and it starts to drop again. I don’t know if it’s the relaxation or the exercise or completely psychosomatic but it worked for me - might be worth a try?

Thank you @Cinnamon35! I'll pass that on, we'll try anything!
