Car towed due to roadworks - how to find?!

It seems there are emergency roadworks outside my house and that my car has been towed (on-street permit parking, no driveway). Anyone know how I can find out where my car has gone or who I can contact please? All I can find online is info for people who haven’t paid tax etc.

There are lots of workers outside and I did try to ask them but it’s a very wide road and they can’t seem to hear me over all the noise!

Thank you

Did you have advance notice of the works. If not, thats really bad.

Council?

Local pound?

Contact Highways. Does the contractor have any logos on their vehicles? They might point you in the right direction.

Thanks all, will try the suggestions.

Have tried council so far but they still think it’s March 2020 and can’t speak to anybody at all (big ish city and they’ve closed all their customer-facing hubs too!) so I’ve had to submit an online form which hopefully somebody sees...

Will try Highways now too. Can’t see a logo on their signs or anything but when it quietens down a bit I’ll try asking again.

Are there and signs attached to lampposts to alert you to the work? Contact details on there?

Lockheart · 21/02/2022 15:31

Usually when this happens the utility company will arrange contractors to move the car who should tell the police that they're doing so. If you have no luck getting anything out of the workmen (although I'd be out there right now asking for whoever the boss is), then try the police on the non-emergency number.

This happened to me and they redeposited the car down the road. Any chance it’s somewhere nearby?

Have you googled impounded vehicles and your area? They tend to use one place, inc Police requests for removals.

Second this - I've had this happen before, and same, the car was just round the corner. Have you had a good wander round?
OrganisedChaos22 · 21/02/2022 15:40

They normally move it to just past the roadworks.
Definitely no pre wanting signs on lampposts?

This happens all the time in Central London. Usually they move the car to the nearest available parking space. If you are in London, you just put your reg number into TRACE and it will tell you the location:

trace.london

If it has actually been towed away, I think you need to call 101 to find the location.
