Nice places to eat in York?

Looking for somewhere to eat in York next week. Two adults and two kids. Last time I went was pre Covid so I'm not sure what's open now! Not too expensive too, cause funds are sadly limited atm.

Thank you!

Mamma Mia on Gillygate

Cafe la Tazzina on Blossom St.

I loved Ambiente (and their sister restaurant Tabanaco). Their tapas is delicious.

Cut and Craft steakhouse on St sampsons Square (roughly next to Brown's Department store)

Little Italy on Goodramgate (also has a fab deli on the ground floor).

Rustique French bistro on Castlegate near Clifford's Tower - has an excellent early bird set menu.

Lots of places to eat down Fossgate and on Gillygate

Bill's on Coney Street (not independent of course, but good with kids)

Pizza Express on Lendal Bridge - nice view of the river and opposite the Museum Gardens

Also, if you're out and about during the day, take a look in the Shambles Market at the various street food stands - really good food!

If you want to eat during the day we love the Shambles food market, lots of variety of different yummy foods, good portion sizes for hungry teens and not too pricey.

JoanThursday · 20/02/2022 20:28

Oh and Ambiente tapas on goodramgate and on fossgate.

RebeccaCloud9 · 20/02/2022 20:32

Partisan for brunch, seriously the best brunch I've ever had!

MouseyMoose · 20/02/2022 20:33

Do you have a Tesco Clubcard OP? There's a pizza express if you have any vouchers you can convert, that's always our go to when we are visiting somewhere and we are a bit low on money.

Otherwise as already mentioned Ambiente tapas is lovely.

I like yak and yeti, especially if the floor seating is available.

placemarking for ideas for next time I'm in York :)
last time I went to the Double Dutch pancake place which was good
then had tea and a fat rascal scone in Betty's which was also good

ILoveMyMonkey · 20/02/2022 21:18

We took our son to CosyClub restaurant last week and the food was good - he was particularly impressed with his fancy fish fingers 🤣

WeirdlyKind · 20/02/2022 21:21

Thank you!

Kids are 3 & 5 so not feeding starving teens thankfully! 😁

Forgot this:

A little more pricey, still family friendly, brilliant location next to river and museum:

Los moros on little stonegate, fantastic north African/ Mediterranean cuisine. Also have a street food place at the bottom of shambles market. Or the cheese trader, also little stalemate. Does really good truffle and parmesan fries, halloumi fries and other toastie type food.

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/02/2022 23:54

The Guy Fawkes Inn looks great

LittleFriendSusan · 21/02/2022 08:32

Also recommend Ambiente tapas. We had a great breakfast at Blue Barbakan and going to go back for dinner next time we're in York.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/02/2022 08:34

Another vote for the Shambles market. Great street food and will be miles cheaper than a sit down restaurant unless you can get a really cheap lunch deal.
