As someone else mentioned, I think the notion that “beauty is power” is a very different ballgame for women compared to men.
I think with men, money and connections = power. There are plenty of unfortunate looking men who find themselves in hugely powerful positions because they have the money and connections with other powerful men that has helped them climb that ladder.
It seems to me that for women, the aforementioned powerful men pay attention to a woman who’s pleasing to the eye. She could have the most amazing brain in her head, but if she doesn’t fit the desired aesthetic, those powerful men aren’t anywhere near as willing to give her the time of day. I think they beauty standards set by society are a huge part of the “glass ceiling” for women. Just look at how the press behave. There could be a perfectly average looking female scientist who’s just made a groundbreaking discovery, and yet someone like Kylie Jenner will take the most prominent headline space because she looked beautiful on a red carpet somewhere.
It’s infuriating.

Interesting how being sporty as the lady says on the YouTube video is praised so much
She had to work on her thing just as much
Also sportiness tends to fade with time like looks too
To an extent

And it’s interesting how beauty tends to be linked with not being bright
Being sporty for example never seems to create the same link
