Baby will get loads of clothes so maybe clothes for older age such as 9 months. Bath toys. Bib Apron for when they start weaning. Muslins. Baby teething now, you can’t have enough teething bibs.

Clothes for the 3-6 month period.
Sophie the giraffe
A jelly cat suitable for a newborn
Baby book
Blanket

Not Ewan the Sheep or any of his friends! Everyone thinks they're a really thoughtful gift so my grandson was given four.

Most things depend on the parents' idea of best baby rearing. My daughter and her partner found slings very useful for the early stages but they each like different ones. They wanted lovely wooden toys, not plastic tat, but then the baby thumped himself with a wooden toy and loved a bright plastic loopy thing. They liked the Shnuggle baby bath and they all like books, and if you knew either parent's favourite childhood books you could include those in the start of a library.

Older clothes
Books
Baby towel/muslins (can never have enough)
Comforter
Nappies always come in handy
Pram toy for when she's older
Car mirror
White noise machine
Disco light (amazing for when they are awake abit longer, my son loved it)

Bibado bibs are amazing and you can never have too many. Also we got given a bamboo sucker plate that was really useful at 6 months. Good to be prepared!

Books
Posh shower gel for Mum

Books with flaps
Large towel, the usual ones are just so tiny. At least 1x1m size. Or a baby towelling poncho, great for after swimming to wrap them up warm while parents change.
Baby clothes for older sizes, you should be getting Summer stuff now already or stick with basic long sleeve tops and bottoms.

Star baby wraps from Tuppence and Crumble. I’ve bought these for several newborns and they have always gone down well

The ergobaby swaddle sleeping bag. It takes the difficulty out if swaddling!

A bit pricy but a gold sovereign.

How close are you to the parents? Could you ask them?

Alternatively - a toy for young child,books,vests/babygrows,voucher for boots (a lot of shopping done there) I also got a thermometer for the bath (great present if they don't have it),memory box, digital thermometer for scanning head and ears.

What we didn't use was the comforter (got 9) also a lot of blankets again used about 2 as we had our own and the rest got sent to charity shop...

I second the tuppence and crumble star wraps - a friend in my Nct group had one and while we were all trying to stuff baby limbs into a snow suit/pram suit she just popped baby in this and wrapped her up. I’ve just ordered one for second baby. Otherwise giant muslins which can be used for loads of things - you get some lovely prints at Pattie and Co, zipster, Etta Loves.
