Grandparents being screwed over

This is probably in the wrong place but I’m all over and just want some help. Happy for it to be moved.

My grandma has multiple health issues. My grandad is her primary carer. After always being healthy he has in the last month become ill, been diagnosed with cancer and moved to a hospice.

We have since learned that they had some debt and were approached by a private scheme in 2009 who offered to buy their house at below market value and rent it back to them. We had no idea it wasn’t still theirs. They agreed to this thinking that this was their only option. In 2012 (I assume after the FCA deregulated all these companies) the company was struck off and dissolved. Since then they have paid rent every month direct to one of the company directors. I have no idea whether he effectively bought the property from the company or not. Since then they have paid the rent every month by either going into the bank or since covid by making a phone payment. There has never been any maintenance of the property, gas safety checks have never been carried out or anything else. I need to speak to a solicitor but can anyone help with similar situations? I know it’s hard when a company is no longer regulated but the company who bought it no longer exists and although I am aware of the identity of the landlord my grandad has said he doesn’t have any paperwork.

TIA
