Has anyone been on Paroxetine, don't know if I should stop.

I'm on day 3 for treatment of anxiety. I feel terrible, twitchy, nauseous, anxiety through the roof, massive dilated pupils so I'm having to squint. I dont know if I need to keep going and these symptoms will stop and I'll start to feel better or just quit now and try something else. I cant get hold of my gp for advice.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone take paroxetine, it’s terrible to get off again with dreadful discontinuation symptoms for some people. I’m amazed they still prescribe it. Sertraline might be better to try.

Thankyou, that's what I've read too. I did specifically enquire about sertraline so I don't know why I was prescribed this instead.

I’ve been on and off Seroxat for 20 years, it’s been fantastic for me, especially with sleeping issues and anxiety. My GP always gives me 10 2mg diazepam to get me through the worst of the side effects, after that I feel fantastic. Never had issues weaning off them but some people do.
I’m surprised your GP prescribed them, they aren’t used much anymore, my GP only prescribes because they work so well for me.
If I were you I’d stick with them and only take a half dose for the next 10 days, then 3/4 dose for another 10 days before going for the full dose, the side effects will be easier to manage.

gosh. I ddint think anyone prescribed paroxetine anymore. Really, really hard to come off. Generally more side effects than other similar medicaitns. was there a reason this was prescribed rather than a different medicaiotn fromthe same type?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 18/02/2022 15:59

I've had it prescribed 3 or 3 times. Bloody marvellous stuff, for me anyway. It made a huge difference to my life and I never had any side effects until the last time and then they were minor.

I appreciate other people have had issues.
Maybe it depends on the dosage, I never had more than 30mg. I agree with PP about adjusting the dosage.

megletthesecond · 18/02/2022 16:00

It's horrible stuff. I took it for 5 months and had 3 overdoses in that time. Stopped it overnight without any problems, and no more overdoses.

I feel very unsupported with this. It was a quick phone consultation, no warning about side effects just that it can take a few weeks to work. My eyes look so bugged out! I dont know why I was prescribed it specifically. I really don't know what to do for the best as I'm desperate to feel better but these side effects are horrible. I'll try and speak to someone on Monday.

You could speak with a community pharmacist over the weekend for advice? But agree would speak with your prescriber after the weekend.

Paroxetine is the best one for anxiety as it’s sedating.

I was OK on it, it wasn’t the best. Came off it with no problems.
