I’m widowed with an ND daughter in high school. I had a professional job, but stopped work and lost my registrations when the SHTF for us. I inherited buy-to-let property from my husband, but I’m not really comfortable with it. It’s been insanely complicated and although it has kept us afloat while my daughter was in primary school and needed a lot of support, I want to change how dependent we are on it. Through the pandemic our income has tanked and we’re very cash-poor at the moment (although I recognise we are asset-rich and privileged to be so, it doesn’t change the fact that I have no money!!!)
I have had financial advice in the past, and it’s varied between awful, unhelpful and basic. I have had the dirty end of the stick from a couple of financial institutions, and while it’s almost sorted out now, it’s cost me thousands. We have not had a good few years!
Clearly I need both better financial advice, peers to discuss it with (without being tone deaf) and to learn about other investing possibilities. Where could I find those people and that information? I’m incredibly grateful to have these assets, and I’m aware that it’s unfair to moan about it to friends who don’t, but I don’t know what to do and I need people I can talk to about it, socially and professionally! I feel awful complaining that we simultaneously have very limited income (only 13k last year), but also want to discuss investing three figure sums (it’s hard to get your head around!)
I know there are worse problems to have, but this one is mine and I need to fix my finances! (apologies if it’s in the wrong place!)
