Blimey. One went up nearly vertical and I think then looped upside down (I don't know the terminology for manoeuvres). Then 2 in close succession.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2022 11:06

They're close together, and another pair coming out over the Wash so close together it was hard to see there were 2 symbols.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2022 11:28

Actually there were 3, I watched them come back in close, then each do a touch down (just rear wheels) and up again (deliberate practice manoeuvre) before landing properly and then some more came in.

BabbleBee · 23/02/2022 11:49

I’m on day 6 of Covid isolation - feeling very grateful for Big Jet TV distraction today!

CaveMum · 23/02/2022 11:57

Hope you feel ok @BabbleBee, I did the full 10 days of isolation when I had it earlier this month and I still don’t feel quite 100%.

BabbleBee · 23/02/2022 12:17

Thanks @CaveMum I’m starting to come out the other side now I think (hope). Felt really unwell over the weekend and into Monday - the only thing I’ve had similar is glandular fever which took me a very long time to recover from which is concerning…

As you say it’s for training , standard fighter world stuff, they go off and do their thing over e.g. the North Sea…when the formation get back to base anybody with any excess fuel left above minimum landing fuel will go around the circuit a few times for handling practice.

Has anyone mentioned Elton John? Appelarently ot was his plane which was en route to US but diverted back to Farmborough on Monday, the one we were watching that had to go around a couple of times to land. Hydraulic failure, saw it on the news.

MayBeeMee · 23/02/2022 19:36

Awful typos, sorry Confused

That's a PTO or Performance Take Off. 🙂

I saw Big Jet TV was there this morning when I was at work. Had a nice day for it, lots of flying too.

Oh, that was the one I was watching. Pretty sure it only had one failed landing and go-around, a different plane had a go-around in between which probably confused people watching on the ground. The apparent 2 loops in the flight path in the report are because it started from there. But still scary enough!

I am a bit hooked on Flightradar since seeing this thread on Friday (thanks for starting it!) and have spent far too much time on it and watching BigJet TV... and rush to my laptop when I hear a plane go over to see what it is and where it's going. I really don't know why I am so invested!

Anyway, just now I noticed a flight from Bristol that has circled around near the Shetland Islands and is now heading back to Bristol. Does anyone know why this would be? It's a Tui flight TOM8108 / BY8108.

Jet2021 · 23/02/2022 23:44

Wonder if it's one of those Northern Lights Experiences? 🤔

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2022 00:04

Do people really do that? Well, that does seem the likeliest explanation for that ludicrous journey.

AnyName1 · 24/02/2022 02:12

Anyone watching? Flight RA10208 is interesting.

paradyning · 24/02/2022 04:22

Ukraine looking eerily empty just now. Very busy flight corridor over Romania

paradyning · 24/02/2022 05:00

Reports Ukraine have closed airspace after missile attacks.
Think there have been late diversions to Moldova

Jet2021 · 24/02/2022 07:05

I can't get on FR now, 'server not responding'.

notimagain · 24/02/2022 07:24

Eurocontrol put out a notice at 0150 UK time saying Ukrainian airspace was closed… they also stated:

On behalf of EASA:
Due to high risks of flight safety for civil aviation, all airspace users shall avoid an area of at least 100 NM within the borders of Belarus and Russian Federation surrounding the borders of Ukraine.”

Worth being aware that whilst the sky over that part of the world may look empty many military aircraft may be choosing to not be visible on the tracker sites.

Indeed.

Imnotreallyaplanegeek · 24/02/2022 10:13

Jet2021 I didn't realise that you could view the Northern Lights from a plane, but that does seem like a reasonable explanation!

Yes you very much can.

I used to see them a dozen p,is times a year when I was working, usually when over the likes of Hudson’s Bay on flights coming back to the UK overnight from the west coat America/Canada , and also when over northern Russia/Arctic Ocean going to/from the likes of Japan.

Their appearance is to some extent random though so paying to go on a flight to see them is a bit of a lottery

Yep, imagine paying for a flight and not seeing them though! 🤨

I saw them when in Finland; was only there for a day and luckily got to see them! 🙂

Thesearmsofmine · 24/02/2022 12:23

I went to look on flight radar and it says I have been blocked. Really odd and a bit scary.

There is a queue for Flight Radar

Honestly, it just shows no traffic over Ukraine except for some US military traffic that is allowing itself to be tracked.
