I live by huge trees-feeling worried about the storm

My house is very close to a row of massive trees. All the trees are exposed to the wind and I'm worried they will fall into the house.

Is there anything I can do to keep safe?

We live on an estate that has loads of trees. Yes, they sometimes come down, but nothing like as much as you'd think-there's loads of trees that are 2x height of the houses and they've been growing for 100s of years!

The worst storm we had brought 4 trees down. But I have seen a tree fall in only moderate wind (right in front of the car!) which looked absolutely fine until the moment it fell.

My thinking is if they are big they are old and strong and have survived many storms. Maybe?

OP - do your trees still have loads of leaves on them? Are they weak / rotten / fragile? If not then they are unlikely to be the ones which fall. Re. 1987 - there are (apparently) about 3bn trees in the UK so that 15m which came down amounts to 1 in 200. Adjust for the factors above and the likelihood of those nearest to your house coming down is very small indeed.

The 1 in 200 figure is very high!!!!

My next door neighbours have huge beech trees, much higher than the house, and my DH has just informed me that if they come down on our house it's up to our insurance to pay for the damage and the people who they belong to aren't liable at all.Confused We're eyeing up the dead one with concern but it doesn't look to be shaking too much at the moment.
