Does temperature rise before period?

Does your temperature rise right before your period.

I'm running a low grade fever today between 37.5 and 37.9.

I am due my period within the next day or two. I don't know if it's due to the period or if it's something else.

I'm new to dealing with a gut condition called diverticulosis/diverticulitis. The colon can become inflammed and infected. I don't know if that is flaring or not. I didn't have any time off to see a doctor until Monday.

No, your temp drops before your period. Sounds like you're fighting off a bug. Get well soon.

It used to say on an old Always advert that your body temperature was higher just before and during your period.

Yes I am always boiling a couple of nights before my period and have to kick the covers off etc

@somewhereoverthechipshop if you’re hot and kicking off the covers then your temp is low, not high…

Whatadayyyy · 18/02/2022 20:35

Yes always roasting a couple days before my period, that is how I know it is coming. Same as poster above. Really hot in bed and need to strip off/kick off duvet

lesgalettes · 18/02/2022 20:36

That's really interesting. I've always got hot before my period, but didn't realise that it's because my temperature drops. Maybe it's because my internal temperature has dropped I then feel hotter compared to the outside temperature?

Piper90 · 18/02/2022 20:36

@Whatadayyyy again, this would mean that your temp is low, not high

Bookridden · 18/02/2022 20:37

Yes, another one here who gets hot and sweaty just before starting period. Particularly at night.

Googlecanthelpme · 18/02/2022 20:37

Your basal temperature is higher after ovulation through to just before your period.
It maintains that level until you ovulate when it increases again and stays high until your period is about to arrive.

This is the theory behind user basal monitoring for conception.

britnay · 18/02/2022 20:37

Yes, absolutely roasting a couple of days before. Its how my husband knows when I'm due as I'm usually very cold and wearing more layers than him.

Googlecanthelpme · 18/02/2022 20:39

Feeling hotter does not mean your body temperature is actually hotter - it’s to do with the hormonal changes in progesterone and oestrogen.
The shift in hormones affects your internal temp control.

I guess that might explain menopause hot flushes too!

Tigersonvaseline · 18/02/2022 21:11

Yes! It does...I feel hot flashes and get hot it's horrible

battendown · 18/02/2022 21:16

I don't check mine, but subjectively yes, I tend to have a hot night or two just before it starts. It's usually a good indicator for me.

crackofdoom · 18/02/2022 21:22

What normally happens is that after you ovulate your body starts producing progesterone, which does make you hotter. But a day or two before your period it stops, making your womb lining deliquesce (love that word!) and your temperature drop. You can track your monthly cycle by taking your temperature daily, and it's fascinating.

scooterbear · 19/02/2022 07:48

Yes. I get actual night sweats before my period. Not menopause-has happened since I was 14.
