I have had back pain a few days it just feels like a constant burning jn my middle back/ both sides. Its not agonizing but it is fairly annoying and paracetamol etc doesn’t help.

I dont have any uti symptoms like pain etc but I know that you dont have to have those symptoms.

The gp asked me to drop off a urine sample yesterday which i did and it came back as

Urine blood test = ++
Urine protein test = +
Urine glucose test negative
Urine nitrite negative
Urine leucocyte test = ++
Comment :
Urine sample sent to Lab

But no other comments - i cant get through to the surgery at all.

Does this mean i have an infection? Do i really have to wait for the results to come back from the lab for any treatment? That could be next week now im guessing?

Im getting tired of this already

Sounds like a possible urine infection if positive for protein. Any pain when you wee?

Walkingandtalking · 17/02/2022 14:35

No none at all its just back pain and general sort of not right feeling

Yes, infection.
The only way I realised that I had a uti was loin pain, no urinary symptoms.

Yes, you likely have a UTI as blood and white cells present
Hope you feel better soon

DiscordandRhyme · 17/02/2022 15:10

Likely a UTZi/possible kidney infection.

You have blood in your urine and protein but not sugars (often seen in diabetics).

Neurodiversitydoctor · 17/02/2022 15:14

Could also be a stone or trauma.

Walkingandtalking · 17/02/2022 16:49

I was really hoping the gp would have something to help the discomfort today - i don’t want to be one of those people begging for antibiotics for everything but this is uncomfortable now!

Does anyone know how long “.urine sample sent to the lab” takes it seems i have yo wait fir that until any treatment etc?

I would say the results from the lab would be within 48 hours but often they prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic to cover the most likely bacteria, I've had lots of UTI/ kidney infections and they can make you feel dreadful
If no joy tomorrow, I'd consider getting an out of hours appointment for a prescription

uncomfortablydumb53 · 17/02/2022 17:20

You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen in the meantime( 4 hourly paracetamol and 6 hourly ibuprofen and drink lots of fluids

Myownpapillon · 17/02/2022 17:23

I'd guess UTI/kidney infection too - had several kidney infections and for me they always present as back pain (usually with a temperature). With UTI I normally have burning when I pee but have had occasions when that stops and I think the infection is gone and then start to get back pain instead...

Walkingandtalking · 17/02/2022 17:25

Thanks i have been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen it stops the stabbing feeling but doesnt stop the ache - i have tried calling the gp again but no answer i dont know if they have a phone problem again it just rings for ages then hangs up.

Likely pyelonephritis, a kidney infection. Have you had a fever at all or just generally not feeling well. Have they taken your bloods?

Walkingandtalking · 17/02/2022 18:13

I dont think i have had a high temperature i do feel a little achey and shivery but i just checked my temp us only 37.3.

I think the gp is shut now and i havent been able to get through this afternoon - i only knkw those results because it popped up on my patient access app.
I will have to try again tomorrow now.

I havent had any blood tests or anything - i sent a request on e consult yesterday morning and the surgery phoned to tell me to drop off a urine sample. I dropped the sample off yesterday lunch time. This morning my patient access had that message on with the results and saying they sent it to the lab.

I have been trying to call the surgery it just rings and rings then cuts off (they have had lots of phone problems in the past).

I will try and get some sleep tonight and call tomorrow if i cant get an answer tomorrow and i feel no better ill go on to the surgery (its a train ride away so i was trying to avoid it today!!)

Honestly if you feel worse overnight I'd ring 111 for an hour of hours GP appointment Especially as it'll be over a weekend

BritishDesiGirl · 17/02/2022 18:19

You need antibiotics, l have a long and painful full history of uti's and kidney stones, twice. No amount of pain relief will work until you get antibiotics.

You can now get 111 to call you back after assessing symptoms online. They call back within 2hrs. The doctor always gives me a prescription if needed over the phone and then if it persists, l can always follow with GP.

Don't leave it any longer than tomorrow

rambleonplease · 17/02/2022 18:26

Tbh I would just phone 111 and speak to an out of hours GP. If it is pyelonephritis you really need antibiotics ASAP. It can become really nasty quite quickly.

Babyroobs · 17/02/2022 18:51

Blood, protein and leucocytes all indicate a urine infection.

SpiderVersed · 17/02/2022 19:58

Each time I've had a kidney infection it's been back pain.
