I was just wondering how this is working in non-English speaking countries as I was musing how I've not seen the reference to pronouns and gender identity in other languages - especially those which are more gendered.
I live in Thailand and (from my limited knowledge of Thai), the speaker can choose their own gender and you can just respond to that. There's quite a large transgender population (nearly all transwomen) and I noticed that they use the gendered ending they identify with and then you know how to respond (which of course makes things much easier!). So that got me wondering about how this might work in other languages too given how gender identity and language seem so intertwined. Any insights?
