Help - airbnb Velux type window won't close!

We don't have these so I don't know what I'm doing. As it says in the title, it seems to open just a crack and is letting in a draught. I've slammed it shut but it's not properly. Do I force up the plastic bit at the top? I've sort of tried but would have to really force it and I obviously don't want to break it but I can't see any other type of fixture so it seems like that or nothing. Have messaged the owner but no reply so far and it's really cold!

Can you post a pic?

I had these 20 odd years ago and IIRC the handle could be put in a position to allow ventilation, or closed up fully to block it off, but there's probably lots of other types that may have a different system

Not very clear but no handles of any sort just this bat across the top. Does seem ventilation related as air definitely coming through but when I try and force it up there's a lot of resistance and a cracking sound...

Look on the frame of the swinging window bit to see if there's a bit sticking out, it's a kind of lock you can use to fix it ajar but it can stick out at other times.

If there's nothing blocking it, mine used to sometimes need a bit of momentum to close so swing it up in one swift movement rather than being too gentle.

But I used to have one that was installed 25 years ago, they might have changed since!

Also make sure you have the window the right way, they can swing all the way round so they're inside out.

If you push the big handle up towards the ceiling it should close the open vent. You’ll need to be firm, but not forceful

I think you don’t want to push the window as such, just kind of swing the bar.
