Electric blanket - how to make it comfier

I tried an electric blanket last night that DH had insisted on buying ‘for me’… and had a terrible nights sleep. Is there any way to make it comfy?
The wires dug in all night. I liked the warmth but hated the lumpy wires. Is there any way to make to comfortable or do I have to throw it in the bin in a sleep deprived grump (disclaimer, I’ll attempt to give it away, I’m not that wasteful but it’s still a waste of money).

We had a sheet over the top but do I need some kind of soft covering? Any recommendations? Or would that just block the heat?

Thankyou.

What type is it? My dreamland one just feels like a normal blanket under the sheet - no lumpy wires. The only bit of cable is right at the edge where you wouldn't lie.

It’s a silentnight winter nights. It has the bit at the side where it plugs in, that’s not the issue. it’s the lumpy wires running all through it every couple of inches that are uncomfortable!
The dreamland sounds nicer!

I think they're all a bit like that to be honest, though the extent varies depending on quality. I used to put a mattress protector over it, it still heated up fine.

These days I just use a heated fleece throw, I bring it upstairs at bedtime and leave it on hot under the duvet for 5 minutes to heat the bed, then fold up. If I do ever wake up cold i just grab it from the bedside and warm up, they are washable.
