So my great grandmother was born in 1878 and I can remember visiting her at her home, she later for a few months went into a nursing home

so not the oldest, but the person born the longest ago so 144 years ago for me

Oh interesting! My great grandmother was born in 1900, probably her. So 122 years ago.

candycane222 · 16/02/2022 21:15

My Grandad had a very alarming elderly aunt (i think) who must have been about that age. Very Victorian!

CoffeeRunner · 16/02/2022 21:17

My Grandma was born in May 1901. I think it would have been her knowingly.

Although as a small child I could easily have met someone older.

Svara · 16/02/2022 21:18

Great grandmother born 1899 but not sure if I remember her or not (died when I was 5) another born 1907 (died when I was 3). Clear memories of great grandmother born 1911 (died when I was 19).

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 16/02/2022 21:18

Similar for me Ivy, I was born early 70s and have memories of spending time at my ggm's house, she was born in 1880.

vitaminC · 16/02/2022 21:19

I remember 2 of my great grandparents, born 1888 and 1892.

Svara · 16/02/2022 21:20

Forgot my great grandfather born 1905 (died when I was 9). That's the earliest I definitely remember.

ivykaty44 · 16/02/2022 21:23

I was just looking through the 1921 census and came to her record, was thinking thats such a long time ago, great Grandma went from the horse and cart in 1878 to the man in the moon and supersonic travel in concord

some will have gone from first cars to the first dial up internet...

Oh, and a woman I cared for in a home I worked at must have been born about 1905 (She was 101 when I was there).

LaurieFairyCake · 16/02/2022 21:26

1885-8

My great aunt Peg - she was in her 90's when I met her when I was 6

I remember her house more than her - she had a Croft, literally a but n'ben. 2 rooms - one with a black range in (only heating), one chair

The other room a bedroom. Loo outside (tin bath in front of fire)

When I went with my granny (young, in her early 60's) she tidied up and the place was immaculate even though this very elderly lady was bed bound. I remember she also had 3 cats - huge fluffy ones

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 16/02/2022 21:27

Sadly only seen photos but the previous but 1 owner of our house still lived here at 102!! 16 years ago. Dead now but we still get post for her!

Hellocatshome · 16/02/2022 21:28

I went to the 100th birthday party of a neighbour when I was 2. I dont remember it but we have photos. So that would mean she was born in 1881.

Scarby9 · 16/02/2022 21:31

My great grandmother was born in 1880 and lived to 98, when I was a teenager.
She was 4ft11, really feisty, and her favourite outing with us was to the airport for a coffee watching the planes take off and land. She remembered riding in the first car in their village.

whatshouldIdoo · 16/02/2022 21:31

My Grandpa was born in 1895, I was still in primary school when he died but remember him

NoLongerTroels · 16/02/2022 21:34

My grandmother born in 1894 and her older brother 1889 Used to spend lots of time with her and we'd go and visit him a couple of times a year. So 133 years for me.

GeneLovesJezebel · 16/02/2022 21:34

My great grandma was born in 1866, and I remember her, just.

ivykaty44 · 16/02/2022 21:35

My great aunt daisy was 113 when she died, born in 1880.

My granny was born in 1889, great uncle born in 1885, another great uncle in 1891. All lived to over 100.

MissAmbrosia · 16/02/2022 21:35

My great grandmother, who died in the 70s was born in 1893. She used to give us 50p when we visited which was quite a fortune back then. My great grandfather died when I was 1, but presumably I met him. He was born in 1886. It seems quite incredible.

Abra1d1 · 16/02/2022 21:38

My great-grandfather was born in 1875-ish and was around when I was a baby and toddler.

flowerycurtain · 16/02/2022 21:38

My great granny born in the 1880'
I take my son to see his great grandmother who was born in 1930. She remembers taking a horse and cart to school, no electric and water on the farm but "can't see the point" in passing on those stories. Such a shame

Yes, I met my (paternal) great grandmother a few times, who was in her 90s in the 1980s so I guess born around 1890. My mother heard her reminiscing about crossing the mountains by bullock waggon (in Australia), as a girl.
MikeandDave · 16/02/2022 21:40

My great grandmother was born in 1897 and lived to be 90. I remember her well. She was from an upper middle class background, quite posh and had lots of interesting treasures I liked to look at as a child.

MysticCT · 16/02/2022 21:41

I knew an old lady who was born in 1878, she died in 1977. She lived in the same house all her life.

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 16/02/2022 21:42

My grandad was born in 1915. He died in 2016 just before he was 101. We have some amazing pics of him in the early 1920s including one in a charabanc full of people going out for the day.

When he was born they thought he was a still birth and left him on the side in a bowl. Then he started breathing and crying.

He was bloody amazing and I miss him!
