How much are homebuyer reports these days…

I paid £275 inclusive of VAT for my first property, and have just been quoted £600 plus VAT for my next purchase.

The £600 bloke has admitted to me that it’s not busy at the moment so it’s not a case of demand.

How much did you pay? We were recommended this guy and he sounds great- but just want to check if I’m being ripped off.

First property purchase was 2018 so I’m not comparing things to 25 years ago

£540 including VAT about 10 months ago.

Not too far off then. I have had some more quotes today of £600 plus VAT and now waiting for another to come back.

We paid £480inc of VAT in October last year. It was carried out by KFH but offered through our mortgage provider (TSB).

This was cheaper than other quotes we'd had at the time and was a really thorough report.

Are you buying a larger property compared to the first?

We’ve just paid £2,000 for ours but that’s a whole other story.

£275 last November - but that was as an 'add on' to the mortgage lenders survey, so cheaper than getting one independently. Think I was quoted £400-£600 range elsewhere.

LaWench · 16/02/2022 12:49

£500 for the survey.

About three times the size - so yes!

I didn’t know size factored into it, feel a bit silly now!

I paid £215 in about Sept 21/Oct 21 but it was by our Mortgage company and we are first time buyers if that makes a difference.
