Milton spray ruined my sofa

WitneyWonder · 15/02/2022 20:06

Have I missed something on the label ?
After an operation my dog ,recovering from the anaesthetic, dribbled pee on the sofa . I grabbed the Milton spray - read the label - it said NO BLEACH - so I sprayed the sofa - and the result was bleached patches on my dark brown sofa . I emailed Milton twice but have been ignored . I don’t want compensation I want the label to say - DONT USE ON FABRIC
Has anyone got any idea how I DO get in touch with Milton ?

We all make mistakes, been there done that 1000x but you said you read the label and it states that it should be tested in a small conspicuous area first which tells you that it could possibly stain hence the instruction.

dementedpixie · 16/02/2022 14:54

I dont think they make the 3 in 1 spray any more so the warning may not be there. It does imply its for hard surfaces though

GirlInACountrySong · 16/02/2022 14:56

Quite clearly states it's for surfaces.... what more can the manufacturer do?

Does not mention soft furnishings

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 16/02/2022 17:19

@WitneyWonder

I absolutely own that I was the fool - but when you grab the first disinfectant to hand for an emergency AND have read the label I can’t see how the manufacturer doesn’t bear some responsibility
They bear NO responsibility: you didn't read the label or, if you did, you didn't follow the advice on that label. If they are suggesting a test first then that obviously means there is a risk.

Op, of course they don’t, they can’t be responsible for your actions as it was an emergency and you didn’t follow the instructions. I think deep down you know that.

It's not a disinfectant though? I've always thought Milton was a bleach.

Milton make many different products, hand sanitizer etc

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/02/2022 20:03

Milton surface spray is a bit like Dettol spray.
It’s not the same as Milton steriliser solution.

busyeatingbiscuits · 16/02/2022 20:10

I’m actually surprised it doesn’t say not to use on fabrics.

WaltzingBetty · 16/02/2022 20:17

@WitneyWonder

But I dog pee on the sofa -needed a disinfectant not a cleaner . Ah well such is life
Why does it? What does the disinfectant do that an upholstery cleaner won't @WitneyWonder ?
Woahthehorsey · 16/02/2022 21:08

@busyeatingbiscuits

I’m actually surprised it doesn’t say not to use on fabrics.
But you can. I use it to get stains out of DSs school shirts
dementedpixie · 16/02/2022 21:11

@Woahthehorsey are really shirts white? Would you use it on a different coloured shirt?
Is it the Milton spray you use on them?

VodselForDinner · 16/02/2022 21:21

@WitneyWonder

Thank you FS , yours has been the only comment that has not been negative or made me feel even worse than I do . I did feel a twit but I only want added info on the label for any other inexperienced grandparents .
I’m sorry, but this made me smile.

A warning specifically for grandparents? I can’t imagine that going down well.

Elderly people should be supervised when using this product.

Grin

Also, what does being a grandparent have to do with it? I thought you were using it after your dog had an accident?

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/02/2022 21:27

Dog urine is sterile if there is no infection. You genuinely only need a cleaner dilute washing up liquid is the much the best thing as it dissolves the fat droplets in the urine that hold the smell of urine.

Yes white shirts. Gets the tomato stains out. Spray on, leave, put in wash.

dementedpixie · 16/02/2022 21:29

So you are using the bleaching action to get stains out of white shirts then. That's the same bleaching action that has bleached OPs brown sofa

Rosebuud · 16/02/2022 21:52

@dementedpixie

Well yes of course, that’s why it says to test a non visible section prior to use

Yes. But it doesn't damage the fabric, so a warning saying do not use on fabric would be inaccurate.

Plus I've also used it to get mildew off coloured fabric, which it did without bleaching. But you have to rinse immediately and not leave it to sit.
