Milton spray ruined my sofa

WitneyWonder · 15/02/2022 20:06

Have I missed something on the label ?
After an operation my dog ,recovering from the anaesthetic, dribbled pee on the sofa . I grabbed the Milton spray - read the label - it said NO BLEACH - so I sprayed the sofa - and the result was bleached patches on my dark brown sofa . I emailed Milton twice but have been ignored . I don’t want compensation I want the label to say - DONT USE ON FABRIC
Has anyone got any idea how I DO get in touch with Milton ?

I know this doesn't help with your question OP but if you need to cover the sofa i've used one of those 'sofa skins' bought from Amazon, has a bit of bunching of fabric in places but looks nice, is soft and is a good, cheapish way of refreshing the sofa (mine had water marks from my daughter spilling)

twotrickpony · 16/02/2022 09:43

OP - ignore the more unkind comments. We all make mistakes, particularly when we're keen to remove pee from a sofa!

I agree there should be clear instructions not to use on soft furnishings.
Hopefully, they will be able to use your feedback and make their labelling clearer.

Lochroy · 16/02/2022 10:06

Right well I'm sorry you're feeling a bit sensitive about the comments. Not my intent with mine, certainly. I apologise.

If you think there is a warning missing or that the No Bleach wording is misleading then you should follow up with them as you've said you're going to.

FWIW, your OP asked if you'd missed something and most posters think you have because somehow we all know it bleaches things. You haven't told us what the back of the bottle says. I don't think anyone was deliberately trying to make you feel worse. Perhaps if the purpose of your post had been to forewarn others you should have said as much?

GirlInACountrySong · 16/02/2022 10:11

We get this at work

Customers wanting things added to labels.... I mean how much information are we expected to cram onto things.... then they don't read them properly

Op.... you didn't read the label in the first place so what's the point adding more to it to be ignored??

WitneyWonder · 16/02/2022 10:21

But I dog pee on the sofa -needed a disinfectant not a cleaner . Ah well such is life

Wish it had had that notice . On my bottle not a thing

Did YOU read my post ? I did read the label

I once accidentally got Milton on my top when sterilising bottles, it left an orange stain like bleach would

WitneyWonder · 16/02/2022 10:27

Thank you for your comments . First time I’ve used mumsnet ,as a friend said the group gets things done . All I want is for another person not to do what I did

I once used Milton to remove tomato stains off of DS's school tops, after a friend recommended it. Did a brilliant job, but it also stripped the colour from the school badge on the top. Felt like a right idiot.

LizBennet · 16/02/2022 10:37

Genuinely didn't mean to make you feel bad OP, my comment does read as flippant and I apologise.

Rosebuud · 16/02/2022 10:40

To be fair there is a warning on the label op. It says to test on a non visible area. They can’t list every single material it can and cannot be used on on a small label. They need to list the ones it can never be sprayed on, which they have done, and then say to test before use for everything else, the label will be legally compliant.

Had you followed the instructions then it wouldn’t have occured. It’s really not their fault.

PizzaPizza56 · 16/02/2022 10:42

Biological washing powder works great on dog wee/poop on furnishings/carpets.

Zilla1 · 16/02/2022 10:51

Hope the dog is recovering well.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/02/2022 10:53

Sorry but it seems pretty obvious to me 🤷‍♀️

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 16/02/2022 10:57

@WitneyWonder

Yes , seriously . There are many household products but I wanted a disinfectant not a cleaner - I can tell the difference.
Obviously not!
InThePresenceOfWeevil · 16/02/2022 11:00

We ALL do twitish things OP...that's not what people are making what you perceive to be unkind comments for. They're just saying you need to own the mistake and not blame Milton!!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/02/2022 11:04

@AfterSchoolWorry

Oh, Milton does this. I used to work somewhere that used it and constantly had spots and stains caused by it.

It mightn't be chlorine bleach but there's some chemical in it that removes color from fabric.

Yes we all used to have spots and splashes from Changing sterilisers.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/02/2022 11:14

You will probably need to clean it again to get rid of the wee scent for your DDog.

Bio washing powder or surgical sprit will break down the enzyme in the wee. Disinfectant won’t work unfortunately DDog will still smell the wee.

On a sofa I’d use a solution of bio powder and warm water.

dementedpixie · 16/02/2022 11:20

You could have used a zoflora solution. It's a disinfectant and also neutralises odour. Milton spray is for hard surface not soft ones

CorrBlimeyGG · 16/02/2022 11:20

Wish it had had that notice . On my bottle not a thing

There is a notice, just after where it says about limestone.

WitneyWonder · 16/02/2022 12:47

Absolutely definitely sure . If I knew how to put a photo of the label on this thread I could show . It was the Milton 3 in 1 spray

OP posts:
WitneyWonder · 16/02/2022 12:52

I absolutely own that I was the fool - but when you grab the first disinfectant to hand for an emergency AND have read the label I can’t see how the manufacturer doesn’t bear some responsibility

OP posts:
Woahthehorsey · 16/02/2022 14:47

Can you take a pic of your label?

GirlInACountrySong · 16/02/2022 14:52

@WitneyWonder

Did YOU read my post ? I did read the label

Clearly you didn't....you didn't test first!
