Come and brag about your amazing child

Forget a humble brag. Sometimes they just do amazing things and you have to share it SOMEWHERE (not in a competitive way).

I'll start. Today, DD (nearly 23 months) pointed at our house number (let's say 36) and said "Three and six". I confirmed with DH that he hasn't talked about that before. Amazing!

Dd 15 has just made the most amazing tea.

Twowheeltot · 14/02/2022 21:25

Clever kids! Both the numbers and the tea!

Twowheeltot · 14/02/2022 21:26

Mine learnt to ride a bike age 22 months. Obviously was amazing at the time but even more so now they are older and I see kids that age and they’re still babies really!

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 14/02/2022 21:31

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow Oh, your DD is already a better cook than me!

@Twowheeltot That's amazing! Didn't even know it was possible!

Ahh well done to your DD Smile

Mine are...

DS2 (24m) has decided to potty train himself. Basically he wants to copy his 5 year old brother, so every time DS1 goes to to the loo and follows him and sits on the potty (and wees in it about half the time)

DS1 I'm proud of because anytime he goes out somewhere and gets a treat (eg, museum gift shop today with DH) he makes sure he brings a toy back for DS2 as well. (Plus he's very patient about being always followed to the loo Grin )

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 14/02/2022 21:35

@Camomila Those are great! Well done on the potty training efforts of DS2, and DS1 sounds like a little sweetie.

My DDs 4 and 3yrs old are just the most angelic children. So well behaved and bright.

They sleep 7pm-7.30am, both dry at night by 2yrs2m, Never experienced "terrible twos" with either of them, they hold my hand when we're out and about, they're trustworthy - I let them scoot and cycle near busy roads and they won't run in to the road. They're just so easy and making parenting a joy.

I get compliments on their behaviour and sweetness all the time and I smugly think it's all down to mine and DHs parenting Grin

My 4yo is artistically and mathematically gifted.

SeaToSki · 14/02/2022 21:36

My younger DSes have decided to call their older brother shorty (he is 6ft 1inch) and he thinks its very funny and has told all his friends. My boys are such good friends it makes my heart hurt a little.

radioactive4 · 14/02/2022 21:37

God that felt good to say by the way! I usually keep all of this to myself/DH.

Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit · 14/02/2022 21:37

My nearly 3 year old can do 1-10 + 1 & 2 (3+2=5 etc) and I'm pretty sure he's a genius Grin

SarahAndQuack · 14/02/2022 21:38

DD is so kind and emotionally mature. I think she's brilliant and amazing as well, but I'm just so delighted at how able she is to understand how people feel and to cheer them up.

(This is a lovely thread btw.)

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 14/02/2022 21:38

@radioactive Sounds like you're having a lovely time!

Had to travel for work super early this morning. My beautiful sensitive DS (8) set his alarm without telling me so as not to miss seeing me off in the dark. He's amazing.

CPHB2021 · 14/02/2022 21:41

DS enjoying and remembering details about our very first chapter book together. I wasn't sure he would grasp the story line, as far more complex than our usual 'Julia Donaldson' type.
DD sleeping all night, not getting out, of her big girl bed.

They are everything. Being a Mummy is absolutely priceless.

Crochetandcoffeebreaks · 14/02/2022 21:41

My 25 month old DD switches between English and mother tongue way better than I ever could up until I was 26 years old at least!

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 14/02/2022 21:42

@radioactive4

God that felt good to say by the way! I usually keep all of this to myself/DH.
Right? DD is so amazing, but I don't want people to feel like I'm bragging or think I'm/she's better than anyone else. I'm just impressed with who she is.

DC made heart shaped toast for my breakfast; yesterday she made me soup. I’m on day three of Covid and a fever that’s not budging. It was lovely to be cared for

DepthOfTheAbyss · 14/02/2022 21:45

My 16 yr old just told me that the watching films late at night with the family is the best thing about school holidays. I was very touched but also thought ‘poor lockdown kids’ 🤣

APurpleSquirrel · 14/02/2022 21:47

DD (7) is in Yr2 but top of her class. She did reading & comprehension tests in September & scored in the top 1% of the country despite having never had a normal full year at school what with lockdowns & homeschooling; she has the vocabulary & comprehension of a 10 year old according to the tests & in her recent key word spelling test she scored 63/64.

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/02/2022 21:48

I’m childfree and very happily so. Four years ago I donated eggs to a good friend, and through her I am “Special Auntie” to a curious, strange little cutie who’s a proper smart cookie even at three years old, and makes me laugh with her wit whenever I see her - mostly because she treats me like an imbecile who knows nothing. The other weekend, I asked her if the glorious rocking horse I gave her for Christmas had taken her on any adventures, and she gave me a withering look and told me no, because he’s not real and he can’t detach himself from his rockers.

Hospedia · 14/02/2022 21:48

My 8yo is autistic and a part of his individual profile is that he's very literal and he doesn't really 'get' jokes. He does have a sense of humour and he can be really funny but if you tell him a joke he just sort of looks at you like Hmm and then explains it back to you logically. For example, ask him "what's brown and sticky?" and he'll give you a list of items that are brown and sticky. Ask him "why did the chicken cross the road?" and you'll get a lecture on the perils of not keeping your poultry in a proper coop.

Anyway.

Tonight we went to the pet shop to pick up an order and there was a sign next to the door asking customers to "please paws a moment and gel your hands".

"Oh!" shouts DS "It's a joke! I found a joke! They also mean 'pause' like stop for a second but they used 'paws' like animal paws because its an animal shop! It's a good joke!" then he cracked up for a whole five minutes and kept cracking up over and over again every time he remembered it.

He told the lady at the till, who probably wrote the sign, he told DH when we got home, I bet anything he'll be telling his teacher at school tomorrow.

He enjoyed a joke Grin

TheWayTheLightFalls · 14/02/2022 21:51

My 4yo is fully bilingual and reading fluently in both alphabets (different letter systems with some contradictory overlap between them). At 4! 4! How did I get this amazing child??!

She also does a good sideline in plant ID and I get a lot of “Careful mum, nettles! But we can make soup with them.” Confused

bowlingalleyblues · 14/02/2022 21:51

My DD is 4 and she can be so kind and emotionally perceptive, when her friends came to her party she really kindly introduced them and included everyone. DS 6 is so good with numbers, for example if I told him what my pay was he could work out what % of it the mortgage was in his head. His genius hasn’t been discovered at school yet, so I’ll just share it with you here.

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 14/02/2022 21:51

@SeaToSki The shorty nickname is so cute.

@Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit That's impressive!

@SarahAndQuack That's a special skill to have. Good for her!

@indiesearcher That is really sweet--nearly made me tear up.

@CPHB2021 Good for both of them!

@Crochetandcoffeebreaks Fantastic! That's going to be such an asset to her for her whole life.
