Help me find a gift for SIL

Can anyone help? I'm stumped, I feel like I've used up all my ideas over the years and this year I just can't think of anything to get her. Details are:
Mid forties
Likes musical theatre
Dances (Tap, Jazz, Theatre)
Doesn't wear make up, not interested in fashion
Drinks red wine but not 'into' it enough to be a gift

I'm trying to avoid the obvious theatre vouchers, over the years I've got her nice jewellery, personalised gifts ( things with her children's DOB's etc). Any ideas?

Budget?

Mummyoply · 14/02/2022 19:43

I don't mind really, I guess up to £100? But more is ok and less is ok too Smile

Do you live near her?
Would childcare responsibilities allow you both to go and see Waitress which is touring?
Ive not seen it but heard many of the songs and if she loves Musical Theatre it’d hit the spot.

Betty’s birthday gift box and a nice bouquet of flowers

Mummyoply · 14/02/2022 20:47

Great ideas, thank you. However, she already has waitress tickets and I did something similar to the Betty's gift when we were in lockdown but it's still a great idea - I'll keep it in my back pocket Smile

How about some Lego flowers? I’ve got the birds of paradise, the bonsai and the bouquet on my mantelpiece, they look amazing! And you don’t have to water them!
Quite a mindful soothing activity to do.

Mummyoply · 14/02/2022 21:37

@doodlejump1980 I've never heard of Lego flowers, thank you, I'll go have a look Smile

Self care gift box, Etsy has plenty www.etsy.com/market/self_care_box
or you can make your own with aroma oils and candles she would like, body lotions and things like that.
Tickets to events might be a good gift, especially if you go together and it's not like a single voucher for her alone.
Could be books about famous jazz musicians or theatre history.
You can also create a birthday video for her (here are some ideas) and use her favorite songs for it or clips from her favorite shows.

emmathedilemma · 15/02/2022 09:12

ask her if she needs anything for the dancing? shoes, kit bag, voucher for a dancewear shop?
I'm done with presents for adults just for the sake of it! If they need something or I've got a good idea then that's fine but I can't buy into just buying "stuff" like self care boxes because i feel obliged to gift them something.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/02/2022 09:15

Just exchange flowers and booze and otherwise take the pressure off the both of you.

Chances are you've both got more stuff than you could ever need and if there is anything you do want that you don't actually have, you could just buy it yourselves, within reason.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/02/2022 09:18

We've had 'display lego'. It's a nice idea, but it just gets all grubby after a while, and I guarantee that there's not one 40 something woman on the planet who will ever say 'do you know what, what I'd really like is another thing that needs dusting and cleaning'.

Hereforthedramaz · 15/02/2022 10:51

Is she a food fan?

I've just ordered some smoked fish and meat from Galloway Smokehouse as a gift.

Someone recommended them for the best smoked salmon they'd ever had.

luckylavender · 15/02/2022 10:55

Definitely cashmere bed socks from the White Company
Nice earrings from Oliver Bonas
Moleskine note books
Lovely hand soap

Jo Malone perfume or a silk scarf. Luxury items you would not purchase yourself.

Mummyoply · 15/02/2022 17:34

Just need something to go with it, I'm trying to stay away from vouchers if I can I've I've done food/beauty sets, scarves etc so often I'm trying to go with something a bit different - still not sure what I'm looking for!
