Home insurer refusing to renew

Just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them before? We haven't claimed or tried to claim, we pay by direct debit every month and have never missed a payment and nothing about our circumstances has changed.

We received an email yesterday from Policy Expert saying "Unfortunately, your current insurer and our panel of insurance companies are unable to offer you a renewal quotation". Really confused and also a bit worried that we are going to struggle to get further insurance.

Anyone? Thanks!

Have they been taken over by someone else?

If you used a broker contact them.
Is there anything unusual about your home? Oil? Thatch? Flood area?

Is it to do with the new stuff that says their renewal can't be anymore than a quote if you were a new customer? A friend of ours has had the same with his car insurance despite not claiming. They've said it's nothing to do with not being able to insure the car.

I'm not sure, I can't find anything that says they have. It's so weird.

@McClary111 no broker just went direct to Policy Expert, we have been with them for over 5 years now. No flood risk or anything.

@OrangeBlossom28 that's interesting, it would be useful if they told us why as we have been looking at other providers and they all want to know if we have had previous insurance cancelled or a refusal to renew.

We had this last year with our contents insurance - it really panicked me as I thought something must have happened to make us uninsurable!

We had no issues getting alternative insurance through one of the comparison sites with a big name insurer, so I have no idea what was going on!

@cactuschris that makes me feel a bit better, thank you! It's building and contents insurance that they are refusing to renew 🤷‍♀️ I'm hoping we will be the same as you and not have any trouble renewing.

I had this a few years ago, got really worried firvtge same reasons as you. Turns out their either just been taken over or had stopped offering services in the UK or something. It didn't actually explain why in the letter though, just said we can't give you s renewal quote which wasn't helpful at all Wasn't a problem though in the end.

*they either

JetBlackSteed · 13/02/2022 20:47

For your new insurers you haven't had a policy cancelled or refused to renew. You've had a refusal to quote, which just means they don't want your business, not that you are uninsurable.
Maybe they've been taken over, or new underwriters and they don't want to cover your postcode.
