Good city break early July?

I was meant to take my DD to New York as a reward for doing her GCSEs. Because of covid, we didn't do that.

She's 17 now and finishes college for the summer on 1 July. So I thought we could go somewhere for a few days while the other kids are still in school (so hopefully cheaper). She's happy with somewhere in Europe rather than going to New York (the price is putting me off!). She's never been abroad and I've not been many places.

Can anyone recommend somewhere please? She said maybe Spain but I think it will be too hot for us. She likes shopping. Somewhere hot might be ok if there's plenty of shade / air con. She doesn't want a beach type break.

Prague is a beautiful city , lots of history and beautiful sights

l am also planning a city break at the same time with my daughter!
Can I recommend Amsterdam. We had a lovely long weekend there. We did Anne Frank's House, Van Gogh Museum, walking tour, boat trip around the canal, found a houseboat museum, a cat sanctuary on a houseboat, tulip market - a lot to do.

PumpkinPie, was Prague full of stag weekend groups? Would like to go with my daughter and worried that they would spoil the flavour of the city

Amsterdam (away from the tacky red light district) or Berlin, loads to do and really interesting.

Not a recommendation as I haven't been but I really fancy going to Budapest, particularly to visit the thermal spas.

Yes I came on to say Amsterdam or Berlin.

Bilbao or any of the other cities in northern Spain would not be too hot (e.g. Pamplona, Logroño (wine tasting), San Sebastián (not too much except beach - could make a day trip from Bilbao), Burgos, Santander, Gijón, Oviedo, León, A Coruña and the other Galician cities).

If she likes shopping, how about Paris ?

Budapest. My dd went there at 18 with her boyfriend and loved it as did I. There's a huge spa (outdoor and indoor) which is reasonable, £20 I think, lots of museums (dd liked the war one) the opera house is lovely and much cheaper than the U.K. we went to a ballet. Cable car, trip on the Danube and amazing cakes, it's also quite reasonable compared to Paris etc

Oh and shops are good, lots of familiar brands at cheaper prices than here (ok exchange rates vary!)

Krakow is a beautiful city, with lots to see. There is quirky shopping with things like Christmas cribs, and unusual vodkas, and also an amazing selection of amber jewellery.

It will be warm in July, but surrounding the historic centre of the city is a shady tree lined circular walk/park if you want a break from sight seeing. Also there is quite a cafe culture. so lots of outside cafe seating.

There is a lot to do in the surrounding area, such as a trip to the nearby mountain region, but the city itself is fascinating and you might be reluctant to leave it!

If you want designer shopping though, Rome is the place for that, and it will be hot in July.

Paris on the Eurostar.

Berlin or Paris, a smaller place would be Antwerp. If your DD learnt French or German, pick somewhere so she could use her language skills.
